And so we're off on an adventure with an Alligator as our guide.
In this excellent book, aided by superb photography, our host shares the anatomy of alligators, explains how they are 800 pounds, 13 feet long (some are bigger, and Chinese alligators are smaller), their integument (smooth on the belly, scaly on the top side like a suit of armor), they are excellent swimmers, their huge mouths have 80 powerful teeth for their varied diet (fish, turtles, birds, deer, dogs, bears, panthers), they can stayed submerged a long time and why, how the baby alligators whine from inside heir egg from birth to adulthood, the difference between crocodile and alligators, and more and more.
Emma Child brings all of this information to the table so that facts can mix with information and admiration and the manner in which she achieves this is that of a very, very fine teacher! Grady Harp, January 15
They are full of scientific and entertaining facts. This book also contains a lot of high quality photos of the alligators in the wild to teach you about where they live and what they eat. Emma covers how long they live, how big they are and what they eat. She even provides little known facts about the animals and what makes them unique.
If you are looking for a good book to share with your child this is one that I recommend. They can read it themselves or you can read it to them or assist them. This book is crammed full of interesting details and knowledge about alligators and that is why I like it. I firmly believe in teaching children to read and the sooner the better. I also believe that learning should be fun and Emma makes her books fun.
I recommend this book to you.
