Carl Valdemar Jussi Henry Adler-Olsen (born August 2, 1950) is a Danish author, publisher, editor and entrepreneur. Jussi Adler-Olsen's career is characterised by his great involvement in a wide range of media related activities. In 1984, he made his debut as a non-fiction writer. 1997 saw his debut as a fiction writer. His latest novel is The Boundless (Den Grænseløse) (2014) is the 6th volume in the Department Q series.

The story starts with the usual premise of most Nordic novels where there is a dark twisted underbelly beneath their pristine natural beauty and seemingly perfect society. The narrative is fine interspersed with sado-masochistic stuff indulged by the preparators, including the leading lady Kimmie. Unfortunately, no satisfactory reasons had been given to explain their deviant behavior. The protagonist detective, seems to sleep walk through the entire narrative where events unfold miraculously, rather than him precipitating anything worthwhile.
Overall, a book which misses on chill of " the girl with a dragon tattoo" and the thrill of the chase

I love all the scandinavian authors and Adler-Olsen in particular. You can be assured of a good read. The translations are always spot on and I enjoy the humour of this series. However, I did not enjoy the gratuitous cruelty to animals. Horses, dogs and even an ostrich were killed in a very casual manner. There is enough such cruelty in real life that authors should refrain from depicting such practices. That being said, this the second time I have read this book which is indicative of the level of interest.

Auch der zweite Carl Mørck Krimi ist aktionsreich und spanned, wie schon von anderen Rezesienten beschrieben. Die Übersetzung ins Englische ist fast gelungen. Leider stört allerdings der Gebrauch von "yards" und "miles". Ein fragwürdiger Bruch beim Lesen in einem dänischen Krimi, wo man doch sich mit dem Gebrauch dänischer Buchstaben( wie z.B. ø ) und der Angabe von Geld in Kronen um "dänische Authentizität" erfolgreich bemüht! Für den Übersetzer würde ich nur 4 Sterne vergeben.

Wieder ist Carl Morck, im Schlepptau seinen Assistenten Assad und Rose, ein Neuzugang, auf der Pirsch um vergessen geglaubte Verbrechen aufzuklären. Diesmal schiebt ihm ein Kollege einen Mordfall zu, der sich schnell als Teil einer ganzen Mord- und Überfallserie herausstellt, die seit Jahrzehnten andauert. Dahinter steckt die Crème de la Crème der dänischen Gesellschaft, geschützt durch Filz und Seilschaften. Wenn das nichts nützt, wird das Opfer mit Geld ruhiggestellt oder einfach aus dem Weg geräumt.

Wie Carl mit rabenschwarzem Humor und dem nur scheinbar tapsigen und ungeschickten Assad diesen Fall löst kann eigentlich nur Adler-Olsen so erzählen. Die Geschichte bietet einen Blick in die Parallelwelt der Reichen und Superreichen, die scheinbar unangefochten von Recht und Justiz tun und lassen, was sie wollen.

Fast scheitert Carl, doch ganz am Ende kommt ihm der Zufall in Person der eigentlichen Täterin zu Hilfe, die ganz auf ihre eigene Weise für Gerechtigkeit sorgt.

Ich habe das Buch schon vor einem halben Jahr gekauft, es aber auf meinem recht vollen Kindle völlig vergessen. Nach "Mercy" wollte ich unbedingt das Sequel lesen und hab dabei gemerkt, dass ich es schon lange hatte. Egal - es war wieder kurzweilig, spannend, humorvoll und mit einer gehörigen Portion bissiger Sozialkritik geschrieben. Zwar keine Steigerung aber ein würdiger Nachfolger von Q1.

This author has become one of my favourites. The Q department is a "throw-away" department formed when a cop goes awry and the police chief needs to figure out what to do with him. The chief puts the cop in charge of a department that only looks into cold cases. As might be expected, the Q department begins having some success. This is a great series with believable characters and stories that hook you on the first page. Adler-Olsen is very easy to read. Highly recommended.
