Excellent account of post- World War II Asia
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on 29 January 2014Verified Purchase
World War II ended in August of 1945 in Asia, after Japan officially surrendered to the U.S. and allied forces. A few months later, the future Cold War actions in Indochina and Korea became a reality. Why did such turmoil erupt? This volume of the Time-Life series on World War II explains, in historic detail and excellent photography, the events which brought communism into Asia. The French debacle in Indochina (Vietnam) was only a precursor of what was coming. Korea was a new battlefield, as communist forces launched attacks in the south. Stalin's Eastern Bloc in Europe led to the idea and principal of containment by the U.S. and SEATO forces. The Domino Theory of the West brought U.S.military involvement into places most Americans had never heard of, and all for a terrible cost of lives--both American and communist. Post World War II hubris by the conquering Allied forces led to an unimaginable consequence of fierce independent movements that swept through Asia, and the unbending resolve by the West to stop it. This book is a terrific overview of what happened, and why.
