Titled Alphabet Soup, perhaps Alphabet Poop would have been more apt for this collection, because for a start there is overall so many typos here. There are not that many actual spelling mistakes as such, but there are others including punctuation, nonsensical sentences, where some words have been repeated or added as well as words left out, plus on one occasion it looks like a whole sentence has been missed out. On top of this there are a number of times where the wrong word has been used to convey what the author is writing about, and even tenses mixed up. To be honest most of these mistakes would have been picked up by Word or similar programs, so what sort of software people writing these tales are using is anyone’s guess, and also some of the writers need to invest in a dictionary.
Anyway, with that out of the way we have stories that link together in one way or another and take in certain elements and themes so that this sort of meshes into a longer story. I must admit that nothing here is really that original and the vast majority of these are not even that well written, giving you perhaps a list of authors to avoid in the future. A few of these tales actually left me cringing because they were so poor, and even though I persevered until the end I think that this book may have been trying to take over my soul as it sucked the will to live out of me. If you are someone who really loves the horror genre, and not one of those people who just claim they do, then you will want to give this a miss, because you may just end up in tears at how dire this actually is.
I couldn’t have been more wrong. I found the intertwined short stories to be surprisingly fast paced & energetic, with enough twists & turns to keen me entertained throughout.
An intriguing & original collection of stories and, as a free kindle download (at time or writing) should not be missed.
Some of the stories are intertwined or hint at the other stories. Make sure you read it in order!
Some are great, some just ok. Overall a very good horror read. It is quite graphic in places so not for the faint hearted! There are quite a few grammatical and spelling errors which spoiled it in places for me. If you can overlook those you will enjoy it more.
