I believe in the statement that a book is equivalent to 1000 miles of a journey into the universe. This book by Priya Kumar proved the statement once again to its very core. Truly speaking, though Priya has left the Netherlands in 2004 after spending 3 weeks there, I am still there. I am now longing to go through the remaining 8 rituals. What a journey and how well explained. Without spoiling the suspense for the future reader is after reading the chapter 'The Salt Cleanse', I had to take a pause of at least an hour to recover from what Priya had gone through. I was looking at my palms held together for a very long time with tears in my eyes and revelation in my heart. That one ritual changed everything about me.
Here, I have to tell the story behind how I got my hands on this book and the other book by Priya, "License to Live". We were a group of Air Veterans who planned to felicitate our super senior named Hony Flying Officer CH Vijayan, who was celebrating his 95th birthday on 20 Mar 2018. We all arrived at Kannur, Kerala (the place of felicitation) Surprisingly, none of had met before and we know each other through a Facebook group named 'Air Warriors of IAF' created by one our senior veteran. I met many interesting personalities during this occasion and one among them was Vijayalakshmi ma'am. We started our conversation in a casual tone and eventually turned out be a life-changing moment for me. We were discussing the book I had authored and the process she recommended me to read two books namely, I am another YOU and License to Live. This conversation happened at the lonely Payambalam Beach. I was totally clueless about the author and the books. I trusted her and my instinct and ordered the book instantly. Now, I am glad that I heard her voice.
I received the book when I returned back to Bangalore. I could feel the energy of the book and wanted to instantly start reading it. Yet, I waited to reach home. Less, I know I am going to be faced with the biggest shock of my life.
Here is my confession! It was in the year 2009, the thought of writing a book named "Eagles Are Born to Fly High!!!" that covered my own failures and successes and what one a newly returning young soldier can prepare himself/herself after returning to the civilian life. I thought a unique way to start the book and named the first chapter as 'The End' and the concluding chapter as 'The All New Beginning'. I was proud of coming up with such a unique idea. The book was published in Oct 2017 and it was well received for the unique way of sequencing the chapters.
Well back to I am another You. The shock I hit my spine was when I opened this book to see the first chapter is named 'The End' and the last chapter 'The Beginning'. I was dumbstruck for a while and looked at the year of publishing and here you go. The author Priya has published the book in the year 2009. Now, I am no more shocked, especially after completing the book. Now, I am wondering how our life has crossed even though we have never met before and the way this book reached my hands. Above all, I am now convinced about the connectedness. A note to author Priya Kumar - Hope you will have an answer to the question I ask myself on how I named the chapters in line with your thought without even knowing about it.

Some of the best quotes from the book-
1) It's ok to feel lost & confused. That it's ok that you don't know what you want. When you encounter the right person, right place, the right job, you will know.
2) Grace & dignity is the answer to all pain that there is. When dignity & grace define your experience of the world, there is no pain.
3) Happiness & sorrow are two sides of the same coin. Both are necessary to complete the cycle. You don't rejoice in one and shun another. You treat both with equal respect & grace.
4) Sometimes you don't know what lies ahead and you will never know unless you move ahead.
💢
A thing which I noticed about the book is that it started with 'The end' and ended with 'The Beginning'.
A motivational book if you are feeling low in life.
Must read.

I am another you is story of powerful breakthroughs. In this book Priya, the author escapes into the unknown from a world that doesn't feel right. She travels to the Netherlands, lives with the natives- shamans tribes and participates in some amazing processes with them who help her realise that the place where wrong is rightened is within. It is an amazing read which says that nothing is wrong with the outside world if we sort out the world inside. This book contains lots of motivational and inspirational quotes and lessons for life. I loved the part at every end of a chapter where the author's experiences are summed up.

Everyone has endured failures, heartaches and feels uneasy to face a situation. When one feel shattered he or she tries avoids the problem despite facing and solving it. Like Priya Kumar has said in this book" You cannot solve problems from the same place that you created them. You need neutral ground to find a solution." A little break can do huge positive changes things in life. One should always face and solve problems instead of avoiding it. This book contains numerous lessons which will help you to follow your dream, have faith in yourself and continue to pursue a path which you always knew was right. It's a kind of self realisation which unravels from page one. Every page is a new thing to learn and a new experience. It's all about the struggle and the final victory.

The book has around 190 pages but gives lessons for lifelong. And I have nothing to say about the writing style of the author, it is definitely amazing with no doubts.

The book is autobiographical in nature, and the first thing the struck me about Priya's documentation of her experiences is her unabashed self honesty. A prodigious high achiever during her youth, by her early twenties, she had earned several degrees and accolades, and a successful career as a well known motivational speaker. Yet, after a series of deceptions, defraudations and disillusionments in business and personal relationships she had basically lost it all. The story begins upon her leaving her homeland with almost literally the clothes on her back, to seek spiritual healing amongst the Shamans in, of all places, the Netherlands.
While reading I was impressed by how the author, when faced with life's challenges and let downs, consistently asks "who am I being in this situation, how did I create this?", without guilt or self condemnation, but with the intention of personal transformation. Many of us when faced with financial despair, loss of near or dear ones or health crisis often retreat into depression, resentment or resignation... She takes instead the less trodden path of self inquiry, not resorting blame, becoming more attached, nor settling on living in the every day conversations that most of us are raised with.
She risks it all by taking this journey, including criticism from friends, family and colleagues. She is taken through some deep spiritual processes wherein she's forced to face all the negative self talk and stories she had been carrying around for years, and in the process, gains access to something bigger. Priya could have very well have come home empty handed and empty hearted, and in a sense she did come out a loser. She lost all that was never her. Consequently, a result of her sincere intention and one pointed focus on getting what she came for, she comes 'home' with something that can be never taken away: that unlimited potential within us all... And love... not as something to be gained, gotten or attained from the outside but, love as a way of being.
I read somewhere that every experience can be a doorway to transformation, freedom or "enlightenment" if we so choose. The author is a good example of one who uses all her personal experiences as an opportunity for growth and expansion. After all she went through she could have went back to India, 'settled down' and lived a contented life, yet Priya now uses these experiences to help others, the ultimate responsibility. All one need do is watch a video of her and you can tell she loves what she does and that the transformation and gratitude are genuine.
I think the title is very apt for this work. Priya I feel is a modern day Truth seeker, an urban yogini in a fast paced 21st century digital media world. She is just like many of us who are searching for the same things, and have often asked "how?" when it's so easy to be lost in countless distractions, striving to meet our quarterly projections or just plain trying to surviv, "and how do I balance the spiritual and the mundane?"
I was an avid reader at one time. In recent years I normally read more "esoteric" spiritual books. Although Priya's story is not a philosophical mind bender, I found myself highlighting & bookmarking many passages and insights. I can honestly say her story provided welcomed inspiration during a recent personal crisis. I believe you will find a reflection of you in this book, a remarkable first literary release.

I had read the eBook version via the iPhone kindle app. I'd been thinking of buying a kindle because lately I've been making many long automobile trips where I have to take equipment, drycleaned laundry, etc. Books were beginning to be a hassle to lug around. I decided to try out the iPhone version. I personally don't like staring at computer screens for a long periods of time, yet the fonts & background are much easier on the eyes than even reading HTML documents. The iPhone also has a backlight, an added plus that the kindle presently doesn't have, which is pretty cool for reading in bed! I think I'm going to stick with the iPhone version for a bit as a kindle would just be another thing to pack up & carry around on the road.
Side note to American readers: Across the globe we have different ways of using the English language. British, Irish, Indians, Australians etc., all have different local phrases, and different ways of saying the same things. I've spent a little time in India, and smiled a few times while reading, thinking "that's an Indian way of say that!". I need to clarify that it is no way 'problematic' at all in this book. In fact I can't even remember an example because it's more of a subtlety than anything, which has a sort of an endearing quality to it : )

The book guides you, challenges you and cheers you on and in the end both author and reader come out as winners.
