If I were to review it in one sentence "Perfect for those whose intention is only to read without spending a lot of money."
On the plus side:
It is as light as a feather
Fits small sling bags
Cost is reasonable
Comfortable reading; you forget that you are holding a device and not a paper book
No glare or discomfort to the eyes
You can read your pdfs and word docs after converting them to mobi format using any of the free online options
Easy transfer of files using just a cable
Charges in just 2-3 hours
You can use it for days even if you charge it for just 1 hour
You can turn pages with either hand
You can use the internet on an experimental browser
Feels ancient after today's easily accessible cellphones
No touch screen
It's a bit of a struggle to use the button options, so if you want to scroll a website you have to press an arrow button constantly and entering text or numbers is also a bit of a hassle
The Screen blurs a little every time you change the page
No back light, so if the light gets darker you cant read any more, much like a real book
To finish, it may seem a tad bit inconvenient to use but that is because you have touchscreen technology to compare it with. But the experience of reading itself is exceptional and great and it's only those who care about social media and videos and other such things who should choose a later version if price is not an issue.
To end, I love the kindle.
One can also download many free eBooks (some are free over a limited promotional period). Although I have stopped doing it, people can use it, if they want to. Of course, the out-of-copyright books and classics are free (elsewhere) and are available to download in the Kindle (mobi) format.
Until now, I had only one issue - One book I wanted to buy, 'Walking on water...' by Derrick Jensen is not available for Indian readers. But that's an issue with the publisher, not with Amazon. Other than that, I got everything I wanted.
Don't buy a tablet for reading eBooks - It's a bad idea. Buy the Kindle and Enjoy the Access to some of the best books in the world! :)
I bought this kindle 3 weeks back, and I carry this baby everywhere I go. What I like about this product is its light so you can read in any position for long time and your hands wont ache! you can see the difference when you switch from your normal LED screen to this one as the print here is E-ink which is as good as reading from a book, so that your eyes are not affected!
The best feature is the battery back up. I read for 5-6 hrs in a day which didn't drain my battery, I had to charge it after two weeks since I bought it!
Its user friendly, easy to mange your kindle account and to set up the payment mode! its not necessary for you to buy books from kindle store, Just convert any epub file you downloaded from internet to MOBI format (you have so many softwares out there to convert, I use Calibre) then transfer it to your kindle via USB.
For ages I was lover of hard copy book reader. When I bought Samsung Tablet started reading digital or e book. Read Kindle e book also.
Once started using Kindle, Ideal to hold on hand and got same satisfaction of hard copy book.I feel it is great device and excellent product. It is value for money. You can read hour together and still you don't feel exhausted because of Kindle.
I read during day or with light only so Kindle E link is fine. If any one has habit of reading when no lights are there this wont do.
It has good keys for operation. No feather touch operations. As a book I never felt it is required.
By using Kindle you can save lot of trees and reserve it for future generation. Also hundreds of books in your hand while you travel
