I've been using this iPad for over a month now, and so I guess I can give y'all a review with experience.
Before buying the iPad Air 2019, I did a lot of research on which iPad to buy. By the end, I was confused between 3 of them: the 2018 iPad 6th Gen., the iPad Pro 11" 2018, and the iPad Air 2019. (The iPad mini 5 was never an option since I wanted an iPad precisely for the bigger screen)
The iPad Air 3 trumps over a lot of features of the iPad 6th Gen.: (Druing comparison, iPad Air 3 features will be listed first followed by features of iPad 6th Gen 2018)
Screen Size and Screen to Body ratio: 10.5" (BS ratio ~78.3%) vs 9.7" (BS ratio ~71.6%)
Display: The iPad Air has a slightly better resolution, and has a True Tone Display with a DCI-P3 color gamut.
Weight: 456g vs 469g (iPad Air is lighter)
Chipset: A12 Bionic (which is the same as on iPhone XS) vs A10 Fusion (which is a little old and a lot slower than A12 Bionic in my opinion)
CPU: Hexa core vs Quad core
RAM: 3GB vs 2GB
Internal storage options: 64/256GB vs 32/128GB
Front (Selfie) Camera: 7MP front vs 1.2MP, with iPad Air having a support for 1080p video @30fps, while iPad 9.7 only has 720p@30fps.
Rear (Primary) Camera: both have 8MP cameras.
Bluetooth version: 5.0 vs 4.2
Battery life: Both have a similar battery life, with Apple claiming you get upto 10 hours/day with standard usage.
So, the iPad Air is better than the iPad 6th Gen. in a lot of domains, yet falls behind in comparison to the iPad Pro 2018, which is the BEST iPad ever, but at the same time, pretty costly in India (base version ~₹71k, in comparison to ~₹45k for iPad Air 3)
Sure, the camera, the graphics, the design, the display, the processor, the RAM, the speakers, and the refresh rate is better in the iPad Pro, but it's not what I require.
The iPad Pro 2018 is an amazing device, and is well suited for photographers who use an iPad for photography/editing, or for graphic designers or coders.
For an average person who wants the iPad for basic functions like handling documents, watching movies/TV shows, keeping a check on e-mails, listening to music, academic reasons, and playing decent games (PUBG and Asphalt 9 work blazingly fast and have excellent graphics on the iPad Air too), the iPad Air is more than enough at around half the price.
It's like Apple says, the best device that's almost as good as a pro, but cheaper.
If you're looking to buy an iPad for academic/daily utilities, don't look further than the iPad Air 2019. It's the latest tech, and won't disappoint you.
1) Processor: A12 bionic embedded with M12 co processor... The line itself makes everyone feel amazing because one of the fastest processors in the world and because of its nueral engine the optimization is superb and never experienced any problem.
2)Battery life: If you are a gamer don't get so disappointed because for gaming it lasts upto 7hours of continuous gaming... And for normal users you can expect the battery life for 1 to 3 days depending upon your usage...
3) Display: being a 226ppi retina display it is simply magnificent... Your eyes won't get damaged no need to worry at that point ... And thanks to it p3 wide colour gamut.
4) Weight and Design: The interesting thing is it weighs only 456 grams no other mobile iPad feels this light. You won't get the feel of holding a large brick in your hand, you will like you are holding a thin 6.1mm paper.
5) Camera: Compared to the latest 48 MP mobiles and tablets, this iPad rocks in day light. Both front and back are nice and performing well
1) Charger: The power brick provided in the box to charge the iPad is somewhat disappointing... It's getting heat easily...
2) Cable: Lighting cable is the unsatisfying thing and the quality of the cable is also somewhat disappointing... If it would have type c it would be a beast...
That's it. It's a wonderful product compared to everything...
Basically, ProMotion technology is screen refresh rate is 120Hz, I-Pad Pro and I-Pad Pro 2018 models are the only models that have this 120Hz refresh rate technology and no other iPhones or Android phones have this technology. With this technology when you write with a pencil it will be even more responsive compared to writing in I-Pad Air.
But if you are looking for a budget-friendly and for education reasons or moving to digital note taking this model is more than enough.
My main reason for purchasing this model is to take notes and I literally replaced my notebook with this and this model very much solved my purpose.
The sound quality of the speakers is really nice and as I'm not a game player I don't comment on the performance while playing games but since it has latest A12 Bionic chip it will handle heavy graphics easily.
Good Sound quality
Latest A12 Bionic Chip
No ProMotion Technology.
I recommend going for it if you are looking budget-friendly I-Pad.
The device is still limited in app official support as it was released only in April 19. Also support for 1st gen Apple pencil is an irritant.
Rear camera quality is also quite bad, as I'm yet to get a non grainy image.
Don't bother getting the cellular version for ~15k more rather buy a JioFi + data for ~1.5k
