5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful compilation

What is true grit? Is it the absence of fear? Or, is it the fortitude to overcome your fear? Isn’t it our grit that makes us brave? Isn’t it grit that ignites is us that smouldering desire to rise in life?

That is exactly what the book ‘Arising from Dust’ is all about. It is a compilation of 32 ‘slice of life’ stories that are the testament to true grit and courage. These 1000 word stories revolve around characters and protagonists who are laypeople – the working man, the villager, the abused woman, the poor boy, the disgruntled teenager, the spunky girl, the greedy person, etc. These are characters who could be anyone around you. In fact, so mundane are they that we almost never take note of them in our real lives.

Tell me, how often do we pause to wonder what the life of the sweeper or the vegetable vendor is about? Almost never…right? And indeed, there is nothing special about them that would make us notice them. But, the truth is, that these people have some amazing stories of true spunk to tell. These are the people who are born sans a silver spoon and they choose to rise in life solely on account of their will and actions. That is why they deserve the applause and that is why they make you take note.

Life revolves around stories. Is that not so? I have always believed that everything around us has a story to tell if we can only just pause and take note. That is what the book makes you do. It makes you pause and take a deeper, more meaningful look at life by bringing to you the stories that are happening around you. These are stories of people who you can identify with. These are stories of people you can relate to. And, these are stories of people who can teach you the meaning of true grit in life because they have risen from the dust.

The foreword by Dr Santosh Bakaya gives you a sneak peek into these lives. But, the peek cannot prepare you for the magnitude of emotions that run through the book. And, trust me Anupama Dalmia’s introduction just sets the pace. Meticulously edited by Manas Mukul and compiled by Meera V Bharat, with a blurb by Ms Lily Swarn, this is one book that may just make you rethink – life is not in the running, but in the pauses in between the running

By Abilash Balan on 20 August 2020
Anthology at its best. The collaborative efforts of 32 authors to come up with such inspiring stories is destined to inspire many. A must read book that will teach you a lot about writing from the experts themselves.
