About the Author

Asma Khan moved to Cambridge in 1991 with her husband. She comes from a royal background – Rajput on her father’s side and Begali on her mother’s. After training as a lawyer Asma registered for a food business, which began life as a supper club in her home in Kensington. In 2015, she opened a pop-up in Soho to much acclaim, and Darjeeling Express the restaurant opened its doors in June 2017, perfectly positioned in Kingly Court in central London. Darjeeling Express has been joined by its sister site Calcutta Kitchen in Fulham. 5.0 out of 5 stars A delicious cookbook powered with beautiful stories!
By Bisma on 5 November 2018
This is a wonderful cookbook filled with recipes and stories from the author’s home and background. The recipes are fantastic and take Indian home cooked food to another level!
Have started cooking my way through the book with easy recipes like the aloo dum and beetroot raita, and I cannot wait to recreate more dishes from the author’s restaurant, Darjeeling Express in London.
For amateur cooks like me, the inclusion of measurements of spices and especially salt is a huge help!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick to make delicious recipes
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 May 2020
I ordered this book after watching Asma on Chef's Table, and her numerous television appearances. She struck me as a vivacious character, and her recipes accessible, which is why I bought this book. I have a large cookbook collection, with a lot of Indian cookbooks, and this is one of my favourites. I hate cooking rice, and I was pleased that the rice dish, the Tehri pulao, pictured turned out really well. The recipes are great and I would recommend for cooks for all levels. I am going to make the carrot dessert this evening, I'll edit this post to let you know how I get on! :-)
