Yogananda says if you pray to god with full devotion, god will help you. He recounts many of his own experiences, when he met with a desperate situation and how praying to god helped him. He also talks about the Hindu philosophy of soul being deathless and reincarnation.
Many of the chapters are fascinating reads. But, some of the chapters need lots of effort to read and comprehend.
Overall, If you are a spiritual person and believe in god, then this book reinforces your belief. But, if you are a non believer, then you may find it difficult to believe many of the events described in this book.
It's a really thick book, but every page is filled with layers and layers of deep knowledge interspersed with interesting incidents from author's life. The style of writing is very engaging and witty, with hardly a dull moment. A word of caution though...you'll always need a dictionary while reading this book. I have read hundreds of books, but never needed to reference dictionary that often, but for this book, I did. However, it was a great experience.
