Autobiography of a Yogi describes the life of Paramahansa Yogananda begining with his childhood, finding his guru Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri, becoming a monk and practicing Kriya Yoga meditation and his travels across America to spread his teachings.
It also describes his encounters with spiritual and notable figures of both the Eastern and the Western world such as Therese Neumann in Bavaria, the Hindu saint Ananda Moyi Ma, Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, C. V. Raman, J. C. Bose, Giri Bala (the woman yogi who never eats), Tiger swami (fought tigers with hands), Sleepless saint, etc.
The book describes many accounts of supernatural episodes like visions, reincarnations, levitation, teleportation, etc. It also mentions magic healings, perfume magic, electrons and protons manipulated by prana lifetrons, etc.
It also talks about Yoga as science of meditation and mind control, the science of Kriya yoga to rejuvenate body, Om sound to concentrate, life force controlled by breath action, etc.
He respected all religions and has shared the teachings of Jesus Christ and various other religious figures also.
Overall, it is a very interesting book. You need to read it with an open mind :)

a must read book this book is outstanding... one should read it at-least once in their life time. its is a merger of science and spirituality, and explains alot of spiritual experiences in scientific way. those who are seekers will be benefited in their own individual growth as it is highly recommended by many spiritual masters. --neetu Jul 3, 2014
A beautifully authored book and a timeless classic. More of an enthralling adventure rather than some faux-religious book. Doesn't enforce any particular form of worship and very secular in approach. --Dr. Aditya Dec 16, 2012 --This text refers to the hardcover edition.

It's an amazingly beautiful book that is NOT preachy in the least bit, and it helps the reader gain insights into his/her self. It does not glorify the author, or attempt to be pretentious. It flows smoothly, is candidly written and best of all helps the reader gain glimpses of their own soul or life without practising grandiose ideas or rituals. I loved it and think there comes a stage in everyone's life when they would find reading this book helpful, calming and soothing.

Okay, I'm not a bookworm, I rarely read any book. I bought this book only after knowing about its existence from an article covering Steve Jobs' funeral, that they gave this book to everyone who attended.
I bought it, read a few pages, it felt like I have also joined the spiritual journey of Yogi P. Yogananda.
You need to read this book in a very calm & quite mood. The journey on which this autobiography takes us is pretty impressive.
If you're having a troubled time or going through depression etc., read this is BOOK.
Hop you can understand what I'm trying to convey through my review. This is one of the MUST READ BOOKS.

Reading Paramhansa Yogananda has been a delightful experience. Something happening to my inner self. Something spiritually awakening! Everyone, just read this book. I can't explain to you in words how that freestyle this is. In words of a Yogi with impeccable English and command. His life stories are exceptionally excellent. He was a monk of the highest order. He was a Karam yogi who had conquered heavens. Reading him is like reading about God.
A vibrant life of a real Superman. I gladly recommend this book to every one of you. It has messages, morals, quotes which I have duly underlined.
Named one of the 100 Best Spiritual Books of the Twentieth Century, Paramahansa Yogananda’s remarkable life story takes you on an unforgettable exploration of the world of saints and yogis, science and miracles, death and resurrection.

Best spiritual book. It explains Kriya Yoga in detail with scientific explanation for it. We get totally lost in the book by reading the life events of Yoganandji. We come to the depth of Indian philosophy & scripture. Once you read it you will have deep influence on your mind. Total awakening of yourself. We remain awestruck by knowing what Yoga can do. If you want to change your life u should read it.
Point to note:- This book shown is small in size with small font like a minibook. If you want to have a good normal big size hardcover book search for it on Amazon. One drawback of hardcover book is that you will not get audio CD with that book. It is only available with mini size book. So order accordingly.

Insightful and riveting. Yes there are many examples of mysticism but maybe that's what makes this read so compelling. It has a very innocent tone and it's easy to read. I learnt a lot of the essence of Hinduism but also that of Christianity. Highly recommended.
