Some "seasonal" kids books kind of lose their luster when their time of year has passed, and that's a bummer. But this book isn't one of them. Even though it's named "Back to School" Bigfoot, it's a great lesson for kids about overcoming their fears and insecurities any time of year. As Bigfoot imagines the worst possible outcomes to his day (including a very cute bit about class pictures) he almost lets his fear overtake him - before he stops to think about all the fun things he'd be missing out on. It allows for a great teachable moment; exploring things your kid may find scary (from haircuts to sleepovers and anything in between) and letting them know that while it's OK to be nervous, they shouldn't let their uneasiness keep them from experiencing new things. The illustrations are vibrant, energetic and really bring the narrative to life. This will be a great addition to your collection.

Bigfoot is a nervous nellie about everything that could possibly go wrong (a lot like my oldest) and works himself up into a tizzy. But no sooner does he make the decision to quit altogether, than he remembers all the wonderful things that come along with the school experience.
Projects, school trips, great teachers, and good friends. Bigfoot is a hilarious new character, and the details in the illustrations are just wonderful.
I'm going to get this book for a lot of friends right before school starts and hopefully help ease some GREAT BIG WORRIES. Hope to see more from this Bigfoot in the future!
