Aman and Rhea are happily married blissful couple. Being successful in their respective professions, they can afford anything except their parenthood. This adds to her multiple miscarriages. While, Rhea is desperate to hold her own flesh, Aman is concerned about her health and thus, reluctant towards her decision. The overwhelming desire of having a baby leads her towards anguish, misunderstandings and finally a conflict. Will they able to restore their bonds and faith towards each other with mutual agreement or they just give up each other?
This is my second read from the very same author Shilpa Suraj. She very well knows the trick of gluing the readers with her books. I loved her previous work, and had expectations with this one as well. I am glad it turned superb. The main highlights of her books are the powerful and lively narration. The characters are very well differentiated. The portrayal of the necessary emotions and interactions were explicitly presented. I loved every bit of their expressions, the longings and the burning desires towards each other. The delicate matters regarding the barren womb and the related taboos were handled just perfectly. I am always amazed with author's approach towards such nuisances through her fictional characters. She loads them with such brimming positivities that one feels contemplated after the finishing the book.
Title is beautiful. But I must include the fact that its the thinking of our so-called people thatz barren and not the heart. The heart always treasures love and affection. Cover page is marvellous.
A bundle of strong emotions!
Well, that’s how one can describe Shilpa Suraj’s latest offering to her readers, her latest book ‘A Barren Heart.’
Lovebirds Rhea and Aman’s peaceful and contended life hits a roadblock when Rhea’s repeated attempts to conceive a child fail. Their grief is further compounded by the social ostracism of sorts that Rhea faces at her younger sister Misha’s baby shower. Will Rhea be able to overcome her yearning for a baby? Will Aman understand Rhea’s pain and stand by her? Will their wedding survive the tag of ‘the barren one’ or will it crumble under the burden of their frustrations?… To get to know the story of Rhea and Aman, their love, their pain, and their frustrations just pick up this book. You won’t regret it.
Narrated in lucid language, ‘A Barren Heart’ is easily relatable especially to those who belong to a society that considers motherhood as a criterion for a married woman to be respected and included in any solemn function and looks down with disdain at the one whose womb is barren and has no qualms in inflicting injury in the form of insults/innuendos. The trials and tribulations of Rhea and the frustrations of Aman have been captured perfectly in this short read that will see you engrossed till the very end, an end that gives room for the reader to dream and decide the outcome of their story.
What I loved about the story is the vivid imagery created by the author, imagery that helps the reader step into Rhea / Aman’s shoes and live out their life.
A read that has the ability to awaken one’s emotional side.
This is a story of Rhea and Aman, who have a blissful married life. As with any other couple, they also wanted to started their family. The roadblock to the perfect family plan was that Rhea kept going through miscarriage. Every time they tried, fate had a roadblock for them. This was a huge emotional stress for the couple, especially Rhea. Things get worse when her younger sister conceives. How will their life change. Will this change their marriage?
