I am sad to report that I was very disappointed in this book. It ended abruptly, with no ending at all, good or bad. I also noticed that the main character, a young, poor, black woman spoke in a believable dialect when she spoke to her parents or boyfriend, but when she was describing other scenes, where she was obviously not present, her speech became very elevated/sophisticated. It just didn't seem appropriate. Mostly though, I was deeply disappointed when the book ended, with no resolution one way or the other. Oh yes, Beale Street was never once mentioned in the book. Very strange.
Very hard to read. A couple graphic sex scenes were completely unnecessary. Way too much time spent grinding away at nothing, then it's over. I'd say terrible, but it evidently appeals to a lot of people. I am not one of them.
I wanted to love this book. I wanted to even like this book. This book is as if someone took the snippets of the previews and wrote them and created a book out of them. The size of this book you would find in your elementary child's library. For the money they charged to order this book. It gets no better than this review right here.
