A large part of the entries are simply quotes from other authors, with attributions.
Much of the rest is made up of observations of the contradictions found in Japan, such as being alone in a packed train car, or how a perfect date is made up of absolutely no conversation at all.
If you have never read a book on Japan, this will seem fascinating. If you're familiar with the country, it will seem that this book fulfills a conractual obligation to have a book completed within a certain time frame.
It's fun to read, but there are much better choices out there that actually educate the reader.
This book is certainly NOT a beginner's guide to Japan.
