Bergmann Typhoon Car Tyre Inflator - Tiny, but adequate. Pressure gauge is higher by 5 psi
Reviewed in India on 18 July 2018
Test drive: It took about 10 sec to inflate my car tyre from 28 psi to 35.5 psi which is about 1.3 psi /sec. This is my 3rd tyre inflator in 10 years span and I can say that 1.3psi / sec is very impressive. Moreover, my previous tyre inflators all came with a very short (1 foot or less) air hose and I had to add air hose extension. The air hose on Bergmann tyre inflator (this one), is approx 2 feet. (the box says 1 mt) but even 2 feet is at least adequate especially for large tyres. Also, the type of air hose provided is superior to the pure plastic ones - which seem to have been a hit with the rats in my neighborhood. The light is not too bright but adequate enough.
Included were the usual accessories (adopters to inflate toys, cycle tyre, etc) and, a 15A replacement fuse. The fuse holder is inside the plug for the cigarette lighter socket. I'm impressed that it comes with a fuse as it therefore is less likely to blow a fuse in my car.
One oddity I noticed was that the box said "Germany" below the name Bergmann. It does not say "Made in Germany" anywhere. I've seen other products being sold that say "German design" what that is supposed to mean is anyone's guess. In this case, does it mean German design or German copy or simply to fool us into believing it is German made? The user manual and warranty is printed in Mumbai, India and to exercise the warranty, you would have to ship the product to a company in Mumbai.
The analog pressure gauge on the inflator was out by roughly 5 psi. Please see attached photo and vid. I pared the air hose with an accurate digital pressure gauge. While the digital pressure gauge read 35.5 psi, the analog pressure gauge on this device read 41 psi. That's a 5.5 psi difference and for a tyre, that is a lot as it will make a big difference in the vehicle handling.
The device feels quite light and the plastic a bit tacky. When carrying it around if I drop this, the plastic will probably break apart so I guess I'm going to have to handle this new baby with care.
So, I give it 5-stars for looks and performance and deduct 1-star for poor quality analog pressure gauge and tacky plastics.
