When you're in a bind for time and want to turn in regular cake mix into not-so-regular cupcake flavor, then this book will come in handy.
Cons: The recipes for traditional cupcake flavors (you know, so you don't have to use box mix) are not good. I was hoping to get a Betty Crocker box quality (because lets face it, despite coming from a box, the yellow cake is a traditional favorite for a reason) cupcake but got more of a Jiffy cornbread texture.
If you don't want to substitute a box cake for every recipe in the book, then save yourself the money and subscribe to Allrecipes (better variety, ratings and reader variations) or browse pinterest. If you have a variety of cake mixes on hand and need recipe ideas (as in you don't use the internet much), then yes, this would be a good purchase.
The book has just a few recipies with alterations to it to make different cupcakes. I was hoping there would have been more variety like carrot cake and other exotic cakes. I tried the recipe and they are easy to follow.
I don't want to steer anyone away from buying this book. For me, I had such high hopes, therefore, I was a little disappointed. Mainly because, I was looking for great frosting recipes to go along with the cupcakes, however, this book really lacks if you are looking for frosting recipes. As another reviewer said, the cupcake recipes are good, but if you want frosting recipes you need to look online (or buy a book that you KNOW has them). So, if you are looking for a good cupcake book this is a good start. Happy Baking :)
