The book follows the adrenaline-fuelled chase that took place across three states during Amit's tenure as superintendent of police of Shekhpura, a sleepy mofussil town in Bihar. How does Amit navigate between his many professional challenges and conquer his demons? What does he do when the ganglord comes after his family? Bihar Diaries captures vividly the battle of nerves between a dreaded outlaw and a young, urbane IPS officer.

The story of the struggle of an IPS officer to catch a criminal in rural Bihar takes me back to the time we spent in lawless Jamshedpur before the police and district administration cleaned it up. This gripping story of the cat and mouse fight will keep you on the edge

I really liked the way he writes the book it just felt like a Bollywood movie is in the mind , the fake name you have choosen for the main villain (***** mehto ) vijay samrat it just made me laugh as right now there is someone with the same name who is very big political leader and MP of sheikhpura district , i hope neeraj pandey will choose some other name when making this feature film.i am from sheikhpura district i was in school at the time when you were posted there i remember how you were coming in our school programme and we always have seen you as ajay devgan way before singham ... i remember every details you have written .. at that time we were not allowed to go to market after 6 pm even the market was also run till 7pm , i remember how one of the student had been kidnapped from our school at that time , the best part of your book is you wrote it filmy but you everything you wrote was original because at that time it was really like a film story ... I remember the day we heard that (********mehto ) main villain has been caught by SP saheb we rushed to market at chandani chowk you showed us him and asked aap log isi se darte the na at that point of time SHEIKHPURA WAS CHANGED and never looked back after that .

"Wars cannot be won by generals in exile. They have to lead the army from the front."
"The situation in Bihar at that time was a fitting example of the ‘broken window theory’."
If you know Bihar of the 90's era, you know how it was. Bihar was infamous for "jungle raj" during those days. The crime was at its peak and criminals were enjoying the status of the emperor.
This book is based on a true story of chasing and catching Vijay Samrat (antagonist) alive who broke jail and massacred 15 people in a village of Shekhpura, a small sleepy town in Bihar. Amit Lodha (protagonist) was the SP of Shekhpura at that time and the onus of catching the antagonist fell on him. There starts the story of "cat and mouse", an intense yet hilarious chase.
Things I liked 👉
1. "Sir, pakad liye hain!" The narration is very funny at times and full of humor because of the authentic local language used at many places to narrate the conversation.
2. The name of a few characters like 'Horlicks' is hilarious.
3. The book is full of drama and keeps the reader glued till the end. You won't be bored at all. This book has every element of a blockbuster super cop movie.
Things which could have been better👉
1. The character build-up of antagonists was kept low and the main focus was on the Protagonist which gave "larger than life" feel to the story despite it being based on a true incident.
2. Though the author admitted in the beginning that he took creative liberty to keep the book interesting, but many times it felt more like a script of movie than a real story. The cover of the book also mentions that it is soon going to be a motion picture, which steals the charm. It felt more like a movie promotion.
Verdict 👉
Go for it just with an intention to enjoy the chase. You won't be bored at all. For the most part, you will be laughing as Amit Lodha has filled this book with humor.

"BIHAR DIARIES" is the thrilling account of how Amit Lodha arrested vijay samrat, one of the region's most feared ganglords, notorious for extortion, kidnapping and the massacre of scores of people. This is a true story of how Bihar's Most Dangerous Criminal Was Caught.Bihar Diaries is tale about a top cop who takes his work seriously and the cause of national service even more so.. The author is an IPS officer and has been the recipient of various awards and commendations, including the Police Medal for Gallantry and the Internal Security Medal. What i also found very interesting in the book was the role played by his wife in hosting him out of various situations with her astute advice. Well, though most will not admit it, alongside every successful man there is s often a women leading him parts of her multitasking brain.
Amit Lodha impresses with his ability to write down a gripping tale. Not once do you feel that the story is being dragged unnecessarily. Barring the first few pages describing the author's initial days on the job (which is quite interesting to read as well), the book focuses on the capture of the dreaded criminal

What Martian does for mars, this book does for the Indian police force and Bihar

Just finished reading the kindle version. With all the plots and twists this book will most certainly make a blockbuster. Better still this book humanizes not just the IPS (Indian Police Service) cadre but the Indian police force in general. Amidst all the bad press about men in uniform particularly the police force, this book is like a fresh breath. I don’t think I have ever imagined what life must have been like to work in places such as Shekhpura with minimal resources. Given the authors almost day to day account of how he outwitted a dreaded criminal, helps regular citizens such as myself see his profession , his daily challenges , trials and tribulations in a different light. Although no one can truly understand his relief when he outsmarted this gangster, but his words almost help us, readers, visualize his relief and joy, and that of his family’s. On a side note his choice for using colloquial language was most charming. Made the book more fun to read, and possibly helped it feel more real, sort of like his diary or side notes about this operation. I congratulate him and his colleagues for a job well done.
