To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Upon reading the book one is bound to think about his/her vulnerabilities and the way they have been tackling their insecurities. Chief Goggins with his callous mind and an eternal amount of perseverance has shown how the so called IMPOSSIBLE is made possible. Strength and success to such warriors.
Its start is very good, and its inspiring to read about his childhood and his need to find his own passion/life.
Its nice, but then all the stories feel the same because he is going for the same thing only on a different level. Its a struggle to read. I think the book would have been better if it was shorter and covered about his childhood, how he lost weight, found his passion and finish it with him completing one of the best races of his life. Then in the end mention that he is still doing his thing and give us links! I think that would have been better book.
Have to say, hats off to guy for the effort he puts in everything he does!
Pros: motivational book about not giving up and embrace going out of your comfort zone
Cons: advice is the book is not really applicable for “real world” people with multiple responsibilities who care about themselves as a well rounded human being. Sure I COULD be a superstar and work 70 hours a week and run 8 miles every day but then I’d be neglecting my family and that’s more important to me. The book hardly addresses this as a topic. I also feel like putting yourself in a dangerous health situation to prove something physically is not good advice.
I had some positive take-aways from the book but overall I wouldn’t not recommend to a friend.
I appreciate the concept that this man worked so hard and was so determined and successful. Others could learn from this. I bought the book and didn’t have time to read it before my book club so I also Bought the audio version too. The bad language was totally unacceptable.!!!!!!! The “F” word was said hundreds of times on the audio book. Paper book it was not. I was trying to listen to this out loud but had to put on headphones so the kids wouldn’t hear the language. Everyone in my book club was dismayed with the language. I read his comments to other reviews that mentioned this and there was an attitude of “get over it”. I did. I rated the book 1 out of 5 stars. I believe the rest of the book club is doing the same. This was a book club of business professionals of men and women. Both had Had an issue with the language. Wasted my money and time !!
I’ll start by giving credit where it is due and say there is no doubt Goggins is a superhuman athlete that has accomplished physical feats unattainable by 99.9% of the human population. My quarrel is that the book was 90% of him describing the pain/suffering and is a autobiography. Not a book on learning how to “ master your mind.”
I'm halfway through this book and right in the middle of a chapter it's like there is a whole section of another book printed in this one. Once it finally goes back to the right book, it is not picking up where this book left off. It's the strangest thing, very clearly not content from this book as even the title and chapter names are in a different font and don't flow with the book at all. Left wondering where this one left off and picked up again. Disappointed.
