CYRA and AKOS grew up in enemy countries on a vibrant yet divided planet. Cyra’s ability to transfer extraordinary pain with a simple touch makes her a dangerous weapon for her tyrannical brother. When Akos is kidnapped and forced to serve Cyra, it’s clear that their hatred is mutual. But as Akos fights for his survival, he recognizes that Cyra is also fighting for hers, and that her true gift - resilience -might be what saves them both.
Their world is on the brink of political chaos, and Akos and Cyra must decide if they will fight for what’s right, even if it means betrayal of their families and countries.

The fate of Ryzek Noavek, the heir and future ruler of Thuvhe is already known; and when he does become the ruler; he takes a proactive action to prevent his own fate by kidnapping the Kereseth brothers – Akos and Eijeh.
It is, however Ryzek’s sister – Cyra Noavek – one of the protagonists of Carve The Mark – her current gift makes her an invaluable asset to Ryzek; but which has also made sure he erased any familial loyalty she might have had towards her own brother.
When her path crosses Akos; they form an uneasy alliance with each other; which slowly but surely, paves way to genuine respect and friendship.
The start of the book is fast paced and at times, gruesome as well. In fact, I was halfway through the book before I even realized it – yet after that the plot seemed to slow down; and it took me a while to get through the whole book. There is character growth, though, in the second part of the book – which made the second half of the book bearable.
The ending of the book is what made the whole journey quite worth it – and I am definitely going to enjoy reading the conclusion to this duology – The Fates Divide. Yet, with the way the first book was written, there is no urgency in me reading the next book; which though is a shame; for Ms. Roth has immense talent that has my respect & admiration.
The book ends without answering a lot of questions. It leaves you confused.
At some points, instead of being a sci-fi it becomes a typical love story, but I like how Cyra and Akos fall in love slowly slowly.
I was wishing a lil more action in a sci-fi, but ok.
To sum it all up, yes, the book is worth a read, but you might be sad that all your questions are not answered.

I did like the book but I found the story a bit distorted at times and there were far too many characters all with very unusual names for me to keep on track with what was happening, which resulted in me simply putting the book down and trying again at a later point.
What I did enjoy was Akos and Cyra's perspectives and the story of the two of them but I wanted more of this, I found everything was over described which took away from the reading flow.
The ending was a little disappointing as it didn't feel like an ending to a book at all, I assume this is to lead onto the next book but I haven't decided if I am going to carry on with the series. I think that says it all.

At first, I thought (as had bought this book by accident) 'oh, it's going to be another mock up of some terrible futuristic post-apocalyptic space adventure. And boy, was I wrong!
I loved how this story gave the characters backgrounds and begins. How we got to see them as they changed. However, I did get lost in some places and confusion made me put it away for another time, but it would suddenly click for me and I wanted to continue. But overall, I loved this book and it is definitely a must read for anyone that likes a good romance that means something and an emotionally packed rollercoaster. I get it 5 stars for a reason and am eagerly waiting for the next installment.

I am looking forward to the next book in the series but hope that the author does not drag the storyline out as a lot of young adult book writers tend to do.

I have no comments on the book itself, it might be good and it might not be. I didn't feel like reading it after reading the epilogue.
