About the Author

Sophie Anderson grew up with stories in her blood, from her mother, who is a writer, to her Prussian grandmother, whose own storytelling inspires Sophie's novels. Now living in the Lake District with her family, Sophie enjoys the freedom of homeschooling her four children, fell-walking and daydreaming. Sophie's first novel, The House with Chicken Legs, was shortlisted for the CILIP Carnegie Medal, the Waterstones Children's Book Prize, the Blue Peter Book Award, the British Book Awards' Children's Fiction Book of the Year and the Branford Boase Award, as well as winning lots of regional awards. --This text refers to the paperback edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars A magical read for the child in you ✨
By @wandering_pages_99 on 24 April 2021
If you believe you can do it, then you will. Belief is everything. You can never have enough of it. ~
The Castle of Tangled Magic ✨

🌸 Olia's story is simple. She lives in a castle which is more than 500 years old & it is descended upon her family. She loves the castle & loves her family. But when her castle is in danger, all her dreams are crushing in front of her and she cannot just sit and wait. She's then granted an entry into the Magical world to save her world from being destroyed.

🌸 This is a Russian Folklore and it has many references of Slavic mythology. There are different spirits like Wind spirit , tree spirit and I just couldn't have enough of it 🤩 The emotions felt and problems faced by Olia feel so realistic and are similar to what we face in our everyday lives. It was like a dreamy yet realistic tale which was being told.
🌸I did feel there was a kind of repetition about Olia's narrative of her fears but since it's a story written for children , this must have been a necessity for them to keep up with the story.

🌸 What I realised is that at times , when Olia had doubts about believing in herself or in other people who had done something wrong in the past, how both times she hesitated , had doubts & didn't have the faith to believe. But then just as life unfolds , she eventually believed in herself as well as in others. As we grow up , we tend to miss out the second step(believing inspite of doubts) more than we know. We stop believing in so many magical things that exist in our world and get all busy in our daily routines, keeping the secrets of the world away from us.

🌸 If you are looking for a warm hug from a book which will make you believe again , then treat your inner child with this story ❤️

My rating : 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
