Suzzanne Collins strikes again with this one! Such an amazing sequel! Again, I'm extremely happy with how fast the story runs and the author does not let you sit and rest or bore you with any unnecessary details. I flew by this book and it was an absolute page-turner.
The story picks up after Peeta and Katniss are victors of the 74th Hunger Games and now need to go on a Victor's Tour. They then learn how their words make huge difference to the lives of people from other districts and how Katniss' mockingjay is more than just her pin.
The thought and effort that went behind this book clearly shows and the character building is just mindblowing. I was amazed at how the author made President Snow's character to be so strong even though he has very few appearances in this book. And Cinna! Oh! My lovely Cinna! That interview with Caeser! One of the best scenes ❤️
Needless to say, I absolutely loved this book and this series is turning into one of my favorite series of all time. Can't wait to read the final book!

I loveed how all the characters had something unique to offer to the plot and none of them carried a cliché personality. With that said I want to talk about Haymitch. I fell in love with him...more like a pitiful one. As you read you realize that all these nightmares Katniss and Peeta have been having since a year, Haymitch have been having them since 25 years but because of the way he deals with them (alcohol) nobody takes his personality that seriously. In the book they also describe the Games Haymitch had won. The 25th. A Quarter Quell. With double the amount of tributes. He's strong, he's focused, he's ambitious but the games overshadow it everytime with its horrors😢 If they ever made a movie or wrote a book about Haymitch's younger self. The one that won the games. I wouldn't be surprised if I instantly fall for him.

Where do I even start with this book?! Unlike the first part where watching the movies first had an impact on my reading experience this one still managed to give me goosebumps everytime during a significant or even a trivial scene. At first I thought 472 pages were a lot to describe the plot and that the story would be stretched a lot like the 1/3 part of the 1st book. But to my surprise it wasn't. I felt everything was perfectly paced. Even though almost the first half of the book describes everything happening BEFORE the main plot announcement somehow it still doesn't get boring. There are so many things happening, from Katniss's relationship with Gale, her mum, Haymitch, Peeta, President Snow, the wedding, uprisings in other districts, the problems faced by her own district that it's impossible to get bored.

Solid 4 stars and most definitely recommended to every one.
Not much to say except that I liked the second book in this series very much. Although, I admit that there was nothing new that author introduced in the dystopian side of the story( by which I was disappointed but I am willing to overlook it).
As like the first part, story is gripping and fast paced. You can't help but love Peeta again. There are Hunger games to entertain the Panem city and as well as you. You can't help to think and feel the same way Katniss does, trusting no one, scared, confused and angry, since you are in her head. I would have liked the story to much greater extent if we could have gotten the glimpses of Peeta's mind(his POV, like the Game of Throne's multiple characters POV), then this would have been pure gold. There were some deaths which did not make any sense to me at all( but its again overlooked).
I should warn if you don't have last part (book) of the series then you should not start this book. The ending of this part will keep you hanging in middle, you will die out anxiety before you can buy the last part.

Catching Fire, second book in The Hunger Games trilogy is compelling as first book if not more. It's thrilling, fast paced, action packed & pulse-pounding.
[Spoilers ahead]
The second book in the series starts off right where the first book had ended. After 74th hunger games, a rebellion has started in districts against the Capitol. In a special edition of 75th hunger games also called 'Quarter Quell' , Katniss & Peeta are once again put into the arena along with 23 other tributes. This book dwells deep into the character of Katniss Everdeen, the romance angle between her & another tribute from her district Peeta and her childhood friend, Gale. Unlike in the previous hunger games, Katniss has to save two lives with difficult opponents and more brutal challenges. This book also deals with relationships, interdependence and pride. The book is simple, easy to read and thrilling till the end. Watch out for the ending!!
[Spoilers end]
Similar to previous book, the print quality is good. Pages are of great quality & the font size is adequate & very spacious. This is book is definitely recommended to anyone who is interested in Young adult fiction.

As gripping and as emotional as the first book, the 2nd book of the Hunger Games series - Catching Fire - takes the story from a personal to social level.
Katniss and Peeta won the Hunger Games and made the Capitol look like an idiot, they must pay-back. And the price is one that Katniss could never imagine. In middle of her inner-war, a greater war is knocking at her door.
Also, Very apt for current times.

Not so much to be read as devoured.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 December 2014Verified Purchase
The Hunger Games and the followup Catching Fire are, in my experience, not so much to be read as to be devoured. Even though having seen the movie first dampened some of the impact of the story, it's still an incredibly well-paced, tense and beautifully characterised book. Katniss Everdeen is a wonderful protagonist - strong-willed but vulnerable, racked with PTSD but determined that in the end she'll face the Games on her own terms. Catching Fire is perhaps not as coherently plotted as the first, but makes up for that with some pitch-perfect explorations of the psychological damage that the events of the first book inflicted. Utterly compelling from start to finish.

Excellent Sequel

Catching Fire starts off at the same pace as book 1 and again, keeps that pace right through. Collins has a structure to this trilogy, each book has 3 parts and each part has 9 chapters. This book follows Katniss as she is punished due to her act of rebellion in book 1 and she finds herself back in the arena of the hunger games but this time there is a plan amongst other contestants and her peers for another rebellion which she is the face of. I enjoyed this one almost as much as book 1.

Even better than the first one! Great book with a huge twist at the end. At first i didnt get it but then it all made sense. The last five word really caught me in. But it was a cliff hanger which made me want to read more! Dunno what went on in Suzanne's brain but it worked and it was genius!! Definetly the best book ever. go buy it!!!! Never thought id enjoy a book where 12-18 year olds fought to the death but here I am. #TeamPeetniss

Fabulous book

My friend bullied me into reading this, I originally downloaded just the first book as I wasn't sure it would be my thing. But before I had finished it I had already downloaded books 2 and 3.
I had heard a few things about the story but it had totally misled me as to the subject matter. It is thought provoking and thrilling and I did not know how it would end. I would absolutely recommend that you give these books a try as they are outside of my 'usual' and I really enjoyed them.
I am a mum in my 40's and I felt the issues and 'what if's' raised were interesting, they kept my attention as I read all 3 books in about 4 days. Yes they are based in the future, so the author can use some artistic licence about what is possible and what is not - which I think is why these books are aimed at a younger market really. But if you just believe that all is possible and what would happen if we really lived in those times - wow! And the relationships between the characters, the hope, the determination and the fears and real emotions - the author has captured all brilliantly.
Don't write it off if you don't think it's your thing - I nearly did - but I am really pleased I read these books, and recommend you try it.

Incredibly creative addictive read the BEST EVER!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 June 2012Verified Purchase
I absolutely loved this book, the whole series has taken over my life.Im now off for some sleep or maybe I might just read Mockingjay the final in this series its burning a hole in my kindle as I type...I have to read this book to see what finally happens to Katniss, Gale and Peeter.
This has to be one of the best sci-fi books I have ever read.
Im completely addicted, I loved this 2nd book better than the first which I loved.
This trilogy of books has seriously changed my life to the point of having sleepless nights and unable to put the books down. I thought the first book and the capitol was cruel and twisted for forcing children to fight to the death; wow how wrong was I; this second book showed how cruel a city can get.
But cruel or not I was completely addicted; this book too I completely devoured like my favourite galaxy bar.
I honestly couldn't put this down I started it at approx midnight and finally read the last page at around 5am and I seriously do mean I couldn't put it down, knowing I had only a few hours sleep before having to get up.
It completely starts where the Hunger games finishes so you don't have to waste time having a whole chapter to remind you, you can simply read on.
I absolutely loved the first book boring my OH to tears insisting he needs to read it, but I truly believed the 2nd book wouldn't be as good, how could it....I was so wrong.
Katniss is thrown into a new world as she and Peeter miraculously come out of the hunger games as victors; plus she is leading a lie to gain popularity claiming that Peeter and herself are in love and will be married as the city love her, but she is now a pawn in the Capitols plans. She now lives the life of luxury for herself and her family but she has to hide certain deceptions from the people to prevent uprising who are still suffering the poverty striken living within the townships.
I have to say this is my favorite book in the whole trilogy as we know about her relationships, we know the characters and the many horrific twists are brilliantly placed and believable despite the book being in the future with so many sci-fi type scenes which I loved.
As you can guess Katniss ends up back in the Hunger games alongside Peeter again through a ruthless twist of fate to prevent the towns from uprising. I did feel this games although absolutely brilliant and very creative was slightly rushed I was expecting more from the games themselves. But the ending to the games has an incredible twist I really wasn't expecting a great addition and explosive ending.
But this doesn't mean its not a great read its a super fantastic amazing read, yes Im raving about it. We watch as Katniss's relationship becomes even more complex between Peeter and Gale a lovely touch running parallel to the violence and politics of the aftermath of the games.
President Snow is a cruel ruthless man who will stop at nothing to stop the uprisings starting within the towns, his imaginative cruelty keeps you addicted to these books.
What I loved about these books is Suzannes knack of keeping the suspense and flow fast paced; you simply cannot put this book down...seriously you cant. You feel connection to all the main characters, they actually feel like close friends and I love having Katniss as the first person so we can see, feel and hear everything that is going on. It really has so much despair and humanity you want to reach into the book and help, its so heart wrenching in places.
This really has changed my life while I have been reading this trilogy, Im now downloading the Mockingjay as I type I cant wait to read the final book in the series as I cannot see how this can end, there are so many ways this amazing series can go and I cant stop reading. This whole series has been on my mind for days, its an unbelievably brilliant read.
As for being a young adult book Im in my forties and I loved every minute of this series I cant wait to see the film, I so hope its every part as good as this trilogy. This trilogy has really opened my eyes to more sci-fi genre books as I was completely engrossed into katniss's world and Im sure you will be too.
