Anyhow, the infernal devices series is the only one I read by Cassandra Clare and i truly loved it. Absolutely could not put them down right until I finished them. Felt quite bad for Jem 😌. Gonna feel a lot badder(I know that's not a word😋) in the next book. But give this series a try! You won't regret it!!

Just the roller coaster I expected after CLOCKWORK ANGEL but thoroughly enjoyable even with the highs and the lows for the characters. Tessa’s character development was steady and I still like her a lot despite the flip-flopping between Jem and Will. The biggest reveal of this book to me was understanding Will finally, why he was the way he was. CC just breaks your heart with the story direction and I am not happy with where things are at the end of this. What remains to be seen is if I get what I want by the end of CLOCKWORK PRINCESS.

Side mentions to the Henry and Charlotte story line, much love and need for more of Magnus Bane and all the intrigue over Will’s sister. I’m not jumping straight into CLOCKWORK PRINCESS because I’m not quite ready for the tension but I can’t wait to read the completion all the same.

I've enjoyed my share of fantasy worlds, but very few are as potent and powerful as Cassandra Clare's. With The Mortal Instruments series I was awed, with The Infernal Devices, I am in complete shock with how confidently Clare creates and how high she keeps the quality.

It's utterly bewitching.

Clockwork Prince follows on smashingly from Clockwork Angel, and is a suspenseful sequel full of mystery and magic right from the get-go.

SPOILER WARNING

Synopsis (Not a copy from the book, but I always keep my interpretations close.)

Tessa Gray and the shadowhunters of London search tirelessly for the evil Magister before he can destroy them, but their enemy has vanished.
With him go the secrets to Tessa's past.
Intent on the truth, our cast throw themselves down dark paths, ready and willing to fight the creatures that dwell there.
But as emotions and histories arise to cloud their judgement, enemies descend.
And they descend from within...

Plot - 4.5/5 Stars

We've already established that the series' world is supernaturally awesome, and the author instantly drives that home from beginning to end. I would've liked a little more recap near the beginning, some more tidbits to help jog those memories from the first book, but overall, Clare does a fantastic job of pulling together the many, many threads and giving them meaning.

The overhanging 'big plots' demand answers: Tessa's origin; Mortmain's whereabouts and dastardly plans; Jem's illness; the threat of traitors; the will-they-won't-they romance (not usually so keen on heavy romance, and Clockwork Prince definitely has a sharp focus on it, but there's also a healthy dose of the fantastical to keep it balanced). The amount of story is just amazing, and all of it resolutely riveting.

While not as urgent as its predecessor, this entry to the series does manage to pull together some tragic and massive events, and the good spattering of adrenaline-infused action is glorious. The twist with Jessamine as the traitor is sadly not surprising. The blurb on the back of the book hints at a betrayer, and instead of secrecy, Clare all but puts a neon sign above Jessamine's head.

We're also treated to an almost joyous ending that I did not expect. There are obviously surprises to darken the light, but it's full of happiness. The author ensures it won't last though; there are so many things hanging precariously over the edge of a cliff that it's insane to even think about happiness.

Personally, while I do love the ending to Clockwork Prince, as a bridge between the first and last entries of the trilogy, it isn't as action-packed or engaging as I hoped it'd be.

Pace - 4/5 Stars

Overall, there's so much going on that it's a bloody pleasure to adventure through this novel. The progression of the plot is solid; the characters and their developments are gold; and the writing is smooth and makes for wonderful reading.

For me, though, there can sometimes be too much of a spotlight on the love triangle consisting of Tessa, Jem and Will. If it weren't for the phenomenal overall experience and the way everything fits together perfectly, I'd have hated the focus on romance. Scenes can also meander a little sometimes.

Characters - 4.5/5 Stars

The cast are as infectious and distinctive as the first novel built them to be. The varying personalities and flavours of humour hit the mark, and the camaraderie is unflinching. Clockwork Prince spends a lot of its time working through our characters' pasts, expanding them and giving us clearer motives and insights. The balance with the plot is stellar.

Perhaps the biggest part to this entry is the love triangle. Yep, we have a tumultuous and terribly risky romance on several different fronts. You know how I feel about heavy, lovey-dovey romance, but there are instances where I'm guilty of being a big softy, and this is one. Credit mostly goes to the three involved (and of course the author): Tessa, Jem and Will.

Tessa didn't sit perfectly with me in Clockwork Angel, there's just something missing. I can't put my finger on exactly what it is in Clockwork Prince that pulls her together, but she finally fits. Her stoicism and bravery are awe-inspiring, and the love she holds for both Jem and Will is natural and understandable. Clare gets it exactly right. Instead of coming across as sly and greedy, you really feel Tessa's confusion.

Along with her love interests, all three are hugely likable, to the point that you don't want to see any of them hurt, be that physically or emotionally.

The rest of the cast also worm their way into your heart, with the exception of poor Jessamine. Her plot, while solid, doesn't strike in the way it could have if there'd been more surprise to her intentions.

Writing - 5/5 Stars

Overall - 4.5/5 Stars

Doesn't quite reach its predecessor's height, but Clockwork Prince is a damn fine novel that comes mighty close.

I’ve been sat staring at my laptop for the past 10 minutes trying to figure out what to say about this book.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adore Jem, he is the sweetest, loveliest, most precious boy ever and I want him to be so so happy, but the chemistry between Will and Tessa is just everything. The whole time I was reading about the cute moments between Jem and Tessa, although it was adorable, part of me was always sat there thinking about how upset Will was going to be (though I probably would’ve felt the same if Jem and Will’s roles were reversed).

Will also went through some serious character development in this book and I am so happy that his rude behaviour did come with a justifiable excuse! When I read ‘Clockwork Princess’ I know I’m just going to be waiting for Will and Tessa to get together. BUT I DON’T WANT JEM TO BE UPSET SO IT’S DIFFICULT!

I have also grown to like Tessa a lot more in this book as she really grew into a badass woman who wasn’t going to be told by anyone that she couldn’t go out to fight with and protect her friends.

I also loved the moments between Henry and Charlotte near the end of this book, I am honestly so happy that they’ve finally communicated properly and can now just be happy together. Plus there was quite a lot of Magnus in ‘Clockwork Prince’ which I definitely enjoyed.

I can’t wait to see where ‘Clockwork Princess’ takes the ending of this wonderful series and I’m excited to get answers to my MANY questions.

I started reading this just before I went on holiday, which was a mistake because I just wanted to read it all the time which was a bit of a struggle when I was doing 12 hour days at Disney and Universal.

After the events of the first book I knew things were going to become a lot more dangerous and complicated for Tessa, Jem and Will, both in their relationships with each other and with their lives. You can really tell how well thought out the series is when things happen in this book which relate back to events in Clockwork Angel that didn’t even really seem relevant. You see how Mortmain has been preparing for things for so long and the more you learn about him the more sinister he seems.

I know a lot of people don’t enjoy love triangles on principle and I can be put off a book because of a love triangle, but if it’s well done then it doesn’t bother me at all. This series has an incredibly well done love triangle. I can’t even pick a side because I love both the guys and I can tell that whatever happens I will have my heart broken in the third book.

We get to learn a lot more about each of the characters in this book, Tessa becomes a lot more confident in her abilities and as a person on her own, we get to see more of Jem and how wonderful he is, and we finally find out why Will acts the way he does. I don’t even want to talk about how upsetting Will’s back story is, I just want to give him a big hug.

There’s so much Magnus compared to the rest of the books in the Shadowhunters verse than we’ve seen before and I was so happy to read the parts which featured him, he’s so a wonderful, loveable character.

I can’t believe that I’m finally getting towards the end of the shadowhunters books. I don’t know what I’m going to do when I get to Lady Midnight, it’ll be weird having to wait for a new book.

A big fan of the Mortal Instruments I think this book is better than the first of the Infernal Device series and better than all except perhaps one or two of the MI series. A really enjoyable read.

Summary: The London Institute is under threat from two sides; from the intelligent and seemingly undefeatable Mortmain but also from Benedict Lightwood, who wishes to take the London Institute from the Branwells. Charlotte, Henry, Will, Jem, Jessie, Tessa and the servants of the Institute have only a limited time to find Mortmain or their home will be taken from them.

Full of twists and turns;
-We learn more about Will Herondale
-Tessa lets go and starts to love someone
-We see the development of Henry and Charlotte's relationship
-Magnus Bane's back story is featured
-We glmpse at the possibility of how the Lightwoods from the MI series come into being and run the NY Institute
-We're left with a cliff hanger, opening new doors for the thrid book.

A really enjoyable read and better than the first of the Infernal Devices I feel. Hope you also enjoy it.
