Well, I can add an unlikely testimony.
I had struggled for years with shin splints and plantar fasciitis due to a completely collapsed arch. I had spent thousands of dollars trying to get relief but to no avail, until I finally found a podiatrist who made the perfect orthotic for me. I could finally walk again!
Then came the hunt for the best shoes to go with the new orthotics. I followed conventional wisdom and bought hearty, supportive shoes, which I wore for quite a while. But I always loved the look of Chuck Taylors [partly due to my obsession with Doctor Who]. So I decided to just buy a pair and see how they worked with my orthotics, not expecting to be able to wear them for more than a few hours at a time.
To my surprise, they turned out to be the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn! They're super light weight, lessening the strain on my shin muscles. And since the uppers are made of canvas, with 8 sets of eyelets [unlike the photo], they actually do a better job of keeping my feet properly positioned on the orthotic, unlike leather shoes, where my foot tends to twist about.
These are now the ONLY shoes I wear, and I've never had shin splints since!!
