An interesting read from an historical point of view.

There are a few typographic errors in this piece due to the manner in which it was compiled by volunteers, hence the fact that it was free to download. Nevertheless it is a worthwhile read to gain a historical perspective of criminology. Impatient "schollars" wanting quick, cheap answers may be disappointed, but anyone seeking an in depth knowledge of the subject could do a lot worse than exploring this flawed but genuine historical examination of the causes of crime and criminality. It will also shine some light on how far we have come and put into historical perspective how far we have yet to travel. It cannot be appreciated in isolation.

Dated but interesting

So I am an LCSW, and part of my practice is working with individuals involved in the criminal justice system. I got this book because I was interested in how people saw crime in days gone by, as well as the fact that the book was free. Obviously some of the ideas and opinions expressed are very much obsolete. However, it was also interesting to read some issues that the author brought up that are still debated today.
