About the author

When Steve Higgs wrote his debut novel, Paranormal Nonsense, he was a captain in the British Army. He would like to pretend that he had one of those careers that must be blacked out and generally denied by the government, and that he has to change his name and move constantly because he is still on the watch list in several countries. In truth, though, he started out as a mechanic - not like Jason Statham in the film by that name, sneaking around as a hitman, but more like one of those sleazy guys who charges a fortune and keeps your car for a week even though the only thing you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.
At school, he was largely disinterested in all subjects except creative writing, for which he won his first prize at the age of ten. However, calling it the first prize he won suggests that there were other prizes, which is not the case. Awards may yet come, but in the meantime, he enjoys writing mystery and thriller novels and claims to have more than a hundred books forming a restless queue in his mind because they are desperate to be written.
Now retired from the military, he lives in southeast England with a duo of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, he doubts he'll ever leave, the beer is just too good.

However as ever events overtake them both when Rex detects a familiar odour coming from the garden of the newly opened B&B. Soon they’re deep into trying to solve a murder. This time joined by a fellow amateur sleuth and her faithful retired police dog called Maggie.the police quickly make an arrest and are convinced they have the culprit when a second murder occurs.
Our amateur sleuths believe all is connected contrary to the police and there ideas. Thrills, spills and the after effects of the Yorkshire Pudding and eating stolen sausages result in a dog with tummy troubles and all that entails and a trip to the vet. Followed by sulking and a diet for one of our characters.
There’s a misunderstanding and a thrilling climax involving a mad pursuit and scenes reminiscent of the Wild West. Before Rex comes to save the day.
We see alberts children once again and they’re starting to realise that their dad is not interfering old busy bodies with theories of linked crimes and a mysterious master criminal.
I’ve just downloaded the next book in the series and can’t wait to start turning the pages and seeing how the next adventure unfolds.
I am truly impressed by the writing abilities and skills of Steve Higgs this is the 3rd series of his book I have almost completed reading. He seems to be prolific in his ideas and story telling without repeating himself. Once I’ve completed the Albert Smith and Rex Harrison adventures I will tackle the Patricia Fisher books. As before I’d happily recommend these books to family ant friends. ENJOY!
