In the last couple of years I've read so many books about sharing that I lost count. At the same time, I've never come across any book as simple yet complex as this one: It's fun, it's interactive, it's clever, and just very very adorable. My kids could relate well to all the different children (the book is full with diverse children, a HUGE plus), and my youngest son (4 yrs) was fully engaged when we read it, and even my 8-yr-old eventually joined in when we repeated out loud "It's fine, fine, fine!" Overall, this book is like a treasure box, and I will recommend it to my son's nursery as well as our local library. Thus, I'd highly recommend this book.

What a fantastic book to teach children how to share when all they want is to proclaim an object as theirs! The book is interactive. The adult or caregiver reads it out to the child while he or she acts out certain parts of the book. The MINE monsters throughout the book are shown in different scenarios where it might be hard to share (like the last cookie) or the temptation would be to be possessive (a favorite blanket or toy). The book teaches to first say stop and then substitute the word *fine* for *mine.* The author then provides ways to ask nicely that the object be shared. Each scenario resolves in sharing between the child and a parent or siblings. The book ends with more explicit directions for the young child about how to stop and reframe the situation if they ever get the impulse to get angry and say that something is *mine*. The illustrations are adorable. We see the MINE monsters (before they turn into children after they agree to share); they remind me of one of the creatures you would see in the Despicable Me movies. Not at all scary, but funny, goofy looking, and endearingly odd. This book, of course, teaches a good lesson about sharing, and it does so directly by instructing children what to do at the end of the book as well as through story, which is a great way for younger children to learn. I particularly like the interactive aspect, giving kids a chance to work out a little energy instead of just sitting still for a book.

This is a book about how to solve the problem of a child who feels that it’s okay to yell ‘mine’ when the child wants something. The alternative is to jump up and down, turn around, and say ‘fine’. That works according to this book. My only remark would be that in some cases, this wouldn’t work. Just because a child asks nicely, shouldn’t mean the child gets what s/he wants.
