Title : The Daughter from a Wishing Tree
Author : Sudha Murthy
Genre : Mythology
Rating : 5 / 5
Hola bookworms !!
Whenever we talk or hear about mythology, the first ones who come in our mind are either Lord Krishna, Pandavas, Lord Ram or even Draupadi and Sita for that matter. But, there are also many other women who hold an important place in our mythological stories.
.
.
So here is again a masterpiece by Sudha Murthy which narrates surprising tales of women other than Draupadi and Sita who have been equally successful in setting an example of heroism, love, sacrifice, and bravery. .
.
This book is undoubtedly a quintessential read for the ones who would love to dive deep into the world of mythology. Despite being a sucker of mythology, there were various tales about which I was totally unaware. This book discusses the different forms of Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess Parvati and many other women who have been a part of our primitive stories. .
.
Sudha Murthy is an author who manages to weave stories with her immense knowledge and countless life experiences. The simplicity in her language and lucidity in her writing style is just praiseworthy. Every story that she writes, either mythology or from her life experiences teaches us a lesson which should be treasured forever. .
.
You should read this book even if you are not an avid reader. Reading such books makes my love for reading even more deep. Peeps, just read this book and do thank me later if you liked it as much as I did.

I have loved the stories from this set, even if I knew them already. They brought back memories from old tales or made connection to present day thta I was not aware of. The stories are lovely , just that I would have loved to see more offbeat tales. The illustrations are gorgeous! A good read for pre teens who may have left their amar chitra katha days behind but still need an updated Iesson in our tales.

I'm a sucker for all things mythology. And the stories from the fabric of Hindu mythology are so rich and heavenly. The only problem being I know most of them already, having grown up listening to them. Her previous books in this series failed at that, in presenting stories that are not well known. But this book has some stories that are not so commonly heard. And for that I am grateful and thus the four stars. Well, as far as stories, they look like the rest of the Mahabharata stories.
I can see that these stories were aimed at a more younger audience, since the stories seem to have been edited / rephrased at times. Or maybe she wrote the stories which she heard and there is always some slight regional variation to these mythological stories, the local folk tales blending in to them. So, yeah, some of the stories were different to what I've known / read.
Also exquisite cover art and illustrations by Priyankar Gupta. Seems to be an incredibly talented artist. Honestly the covers make up 75% of the reason for me buying these books.
A must read if you like stories from Indian mythology.

Delightful and entertaining. A new collection of short stories ( likely to be different than what you might have read previously) with very nice depictions.
