Review
Breath-taking and thought-provoking ― The New York Times
Truly intriguing and inspiring ― Los Angeles Times
Gladwell's most enjoyable book so far. It is a feel-good extravaganza, nourishing both heart and mind. Each of its stories ... has an ending that is both happy and surprising. What ostensibly unites the stories are the twin ideas that an advantage can sometimes be a disadvantage and that a disadvantage can sometimes be an advantage. Yet there is something more powerful and more uplifting that also links them. It is that good beats bad - just when you least expected it ― Financial Times
When you read it, you feel like you can topple giants -- Jon Ronson

I purchased this book after reading the "Outliers", by the same author. "Outliers" was a fantastic piece and was recommended by my sister who reads a lot!!!
So I went on to buy this book as well and I wasn't disappointed at all. The content and narration are as good as "Outliers"... So if you are looking to buy this one go for it for sure and if you liked it then read "Outliers" as well.
Happy reading.

Once again, Gladwell writes a gripping tale of plausible reasons behind the victory of the underdog. His anecdotes do bring out some of the common traits of the Davids of the world. But it does seem somewhat
simplistic. Large MNCs and powerful political leaders do get away with murder most of the time. But it does give hope to the underprivileged especially with the backing of modern systems of communication like social media. It is another matter that the same social media can be misused by large data handlers.

A dozen different stories of winning by fighting back after utter devastation of body and soul.
I don't know what real lessons to take away from these, nor do I think there is something formulaic that we can learn and adopt into our own lives.
But I see this as a powerful testament to the indefatigable indomitable human soul.

I fianlly gave up readiing it.
I personally like a book that has real life examples that one can corelate with. This makes the learning more easy.
This book is nowhere closer to any business examples and tends to give examples of individuals.
Not the kind of book I anticipated and probably the first one that I left unread till the end.

Malcolm Gladwell is one of the few authors whose every release I have read. I like his way of story telling more than anything else. He picks up varied topics and throws examples which can amuse one and all.
About this particular one, while reading I could relate two things that is arguably stated in many epics-
- There is a reason for everything happening, the way it is happening!
- Faith shows the way!
It was scientific representation of two things in motion. From the very onset of David Vs Goliath, there is a clear understanding .. that while you reach to a stage, you miss something else. It might also be called balancing act. Big giants will have vulnerabilities , the only thing is to look at blue waters, see where they are slow (significantly)
Excellent Book!

I could not stop finishing this book. I read it whenever I find little time and finished it. This is the first book I read from this author and I am going to read more of his books
The book speaks on real life incidents of how people who seemingly look incapable of achieve big things achieved by their "art of battling giants". This a very good book and will boost your confidence to think differently

Another masterclass from Malcolm Gladwell. After reading this book, you will live your life positively. He accurately describes the moments of life which are poverty ridden, or whenever we are feeling we got less compared to the rest of others. But, these tough times teaches us some skills like extreme hard work, which are very helpful in the long run and are oblivious to the people who have spent their whole life in privilege. Concept of "desired difficulty", which shows why difficulties are necessary to be strong, or to achieve big in life.

Extremely Well Written, And Very Interesting.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 April 2020Verified Purchase
By far the best thing about this book is the writer’s style of writing. The writer’s introduction of the story of David & Goliath at the start of the book really set the stage for what this book is all about, and i loved how he kept on linking each chapter back to the story (rather cyclical). Each chapter was independent, which actually made the book much more interesting than I would’ve thought.
The reason why this book isn’t 5-stars is because I feel like the author often slightly underdeveloped a lot of his points. The chapter on why small classes are not necessarily better than big classes is a very noticeable example of this for me. Although this wasn’t evident in every chapter, I believe that the author often didn’t look at a range of evidence before giving his point, instead picking out the few bits of evidence that were in his favour. Sadly, this often portrayed him as being slightly biased and not objective. However, I found that this was only seen in a couple of chapters, and overall the book was very eye-opening and fascinating. I strongly recommend it to anyone who wants to challenge society’s values.

Really, well worth a read. It will make you rethink things that you've always just accepted. Maybe it's not always that obious.

I have never read any Gladwell books but, after hearing him interviewed on the radio, thought he sounded interesting and thus would give one of his books a try. I really enjoyed it. It was easy to read and, at least on my part, made me rethink things that I'd always accepted; 'Well, of course that has to be right' - but does it? Was it, necessarily, a great surprise that a small, well trained protector of livestock would loose a battle against a weak, poorly sighted acromegalic? Does the smaller class increase the productivity of students exponentially? Do some 'disabilities' actually increasing some people's ability and success? Whether you accept all the facts Gladwell pulls on in his book or not I'm quite sure that it will make you think about things - it did for me anyway.

good stories but tries too hard with flawed reasoning
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 December 2013Verified Purchase
I'm a big fan of Gladwell especially his short stories and articles in The New Yorker. David and Goliath is a compelling analogy for the world in which we live today and had the making of a great book but I feel Gladwell fell short of the book's (and the point he set out to prove) true potential.
The premise that the small can take on the big and mighty and win in today's fast paced and rapidly changing world is compelling. But his book fails to inspire and that is a disappointment. The premise had been well laid out early in the book and I expected it to progress to great current day learnings but the entire book labours a point that most readers will get and agree with early on. Gladwell would then have done better to show the learnings and pitfalls of the analogy rather than spending chapter after chapter proving a point that had already been proven.
Some good stories, well written and easy to read but could've delivered so much more. A decent book but from Gladwell I expected something more.
3 1/2 stars.

entertaining reading
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 February 2014Verified Purchase
This is very enjoyable and entertaining reading. The main theme is the goldiocks principle - too little or too much of something won't work well - it needs to be just right ( or at least within a just-right range)
Drawing on examples from education, policing, civil rights, and much else the book provides numerous anecdotes as well as statistical evidence to show that inverse U shaped curves apply to the effectiveness of most fields of human activity.
I thouroughly enjoyed this book, although there is not much that is revelatory, and read it in just one day

Malcolm Gladwell again approaches well known ideas from a different angle and helps to show why the underdogs have more of an advantage than is usually realised. he provides his ideas very well and helps the reader to see things from a different angle.
