4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting
By Mishti bhadra on 25 January 2022
Okayy this book was interesting. My favorite genre is fantasy+romance and I've read many books in this genre, so trust me when i say this was a 3.5/5 (i couldn't give a 3.5 so i gave it 4 stars above). A page turner? Absolutely yes. The world building? Good. Fast paced? Yes, i finished in a couple of days.
THE ONLY THING I DIDN'T LIKE WAS the main female lead...she annoyed me a bit but that's totally a personal opinion. AND IT HAS A MAP TOO.
Ok that's it.
Happy reading <3

4.0 out of 5 stars What Happens in the Kingdom of Kandala?
By _cortana.bookreads_ on 11 February 2022
Defy the Night by Brigid Kemmerer ( @brigidkemmerer ) had been on my TBR since November 2021 and I finally was able to finish reading it a few days ago. Ngl , this was one of my most anticipated reads and am pretty impressed by how it turned out. Having read ," A Curse So Dark and Lonely " , by the same author , my expectations from this book were pretty high. And tbh it really did live upto most of them.

The first thing that attracted me towards this book was it brilliant cover and the gorgeous artwork on it. I really loved the UK/IN edition of the book but in my opinion the artwork on the US edition was prettier , with the depictions of the Palace of Kandala.

Defy the Night is the first book of the upcoming trilogy of the same name. It is a mind-blowing story about duty , love , kinsman ship and justice. Set in the fictional kingdom of Kandala, where subjects are dying due to a mysterious fever ,which can only be cured by rare Moonflower petals this story revolves around apothecary Tessa Cade and her mysterious love interest Weston Lark . Since the Moonflower petals are available only to the rich, these two outlaws help the sick poor, by distributing stolen Moonflower elixir among them. Tessa's life falls apart when she finds out that Wes has been punished by the cruel Prince and the King of the lands and she finds herself at the palace gates to acquire revenge. Unfortunately she doesn't know that the palace is where the darkest secrets and grudges are brewed.

I can simply just not wait for the second book to come out this year. I need more of Tessa , Wes , Corrick, Harristan and Quint in my life! The descriptions of the beautiful Royal Sector , with it's ornate galas, celebratory dinner places and the Wilds with it's small huts , shops and heart warming citizens are simply so vivid and resplendent.
Give it a read if you haven't and share your experiences with me !

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect page turning book
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 May 2022
I loved this book it honestly made me outright giggle in places and plead with the characters in others.

I love Wes, honestly adore the character and Tessa is inspiring. I complete loved the characters and the connection not only to each other but to others in the world that are important to them. I loved that the fight for the trying to create a rebellion.

The world is understandable and new so the read is completely lost into it and the plot just keeps giving. I was heartbroken as I turned the last page because I could have stayed in this world for longer than that last page.

The plot showed that all sides are valid to them and I loved that. It sends a reminder that things are no always black and white. It truest is technicolored with everyone’s views.

This book deserves more hype.

Thank you @brigidkemmerer for such an amazing read. And inspiring book to encourage change in the right way. Honestly, glad I picked it up and bonus what an amazing cover.
