Review
Ryan Holiday is among the most psychologically wise writers I know. -- Angela Duckworth, bestselling author of Grit
Ryan Holiday is one of his generation's finest thinkers -- Steven Pressfield, author of The War of Art
[Ryan Holiday is a] self-help sage, who is now a sought-after guru to NFL coaches, Olympians, hip-hop stars, and Silicon Valley entrepreneurs . . . [he] translates Stoicism, which had counted emperors and statesmen among its adherents during antiquity, into pithy catchphrases and digestible anecdotes for ambitious, twenty-first-century life hackers. ― New York Times
I don't have many rules in life, but one I never break is: If Ryan Holiday writes a book, I read it as soon as I can get my hands on it. -- Brian Koppelman, screenwriter and director, Ocean’s Thirteen and Billions

The speciality of the book, I think is that it makes you want to read a complete chapter of it at one go.This helps you to keep track of your progress and is something you can be proud of at the end of the day.
Read it as a story book if you'd like but telling yourself to be disciplined and that's the way stoic behaved et cetera doesn't work. If telling ourselves was only thing that required, the whole world would be extremely disciplined.
What we require is step to help us get there. This is where books like Atomic habits & Jordan Peterson books help. Read this book as a story book but expect nothing more.

I read the ‘Daily Stoic’ (his website & newsletter) at least once a week, and, honestly, I always find something useful, insightful or thought provoking within these articles. This book is a fantastic compilation/array of interesting and thoughtful illuminations. I find the speed with which one can consume this a real bonus.
So, you have here; Philosophy, Wisdom, Thoughtfulness and a whole host of very useful writing and signs toward other useful resources and entities. I honestly think one cannot go wrong at the price, and the content you get for your money is truly great value, too.
Hold off no longer, this book needs to be read, by you! Put it on your device, or place it on your shelf and read it every day. Then, if you haven’t already, go and buy his other books, you’ll grow from the experiences.

It also then provides cautionary tales from Napoleon, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, King George IV to highlight examples of self-inflicted destruction.
This approach makes it engaging and it has very small chapters which are easy to read and divided into three parts - The Exterior (The Body), The Inner Domain (The Temperament) and The Magisterial (The Soul).
The smaller chapters allows you to dip in and out and use this as a reflection. The book helps make a compelling case for self-discipline and can be a great reflection tool but it doesn't really provide any ground breaking content. If you have read Ryan's previous books then you will maybe notice some repetitiveness, or any other self development book that covers lots of these topic areas. So it may not appeal to everyone.
However, if you want to motivate yourself and get some inspiration to start building the self-discipline muscle then this can be a useful book to appreciate and learn from other peoples stories of self-control and self-discipline.
