I felt that out of the three books in the series, this one had the strongest plot line (which is saying something because I really enjoyed the previous two!) I will say that it is a romance heavy plot (not that I’m complaining) but at points I did almost want to send them a text reminder like: you've got bigger fish to fry guys. I also liked that, even though this is the series finale, the world continued to expand and gain depth.
All in all this was a great end to the series and checked all the boxes I wanted it to. Armentrout masterfully tied up all the loose ends while leaving the door ajar just enough that I’m really looking forward to picking up the Harbringer series to see what’s next in store for this world.
I loved all three books for different reasons, the first because it sets the scene, the middle because it twisted events and went in a way I didn’t predict and the third because it wrapped everything up with the slightly menacing probability that things maybe weren’t quite as good as they’d appeared.
Layla is a great heroine, not quite as confident as she appears but with a brilliant strength of character. There are two main male characters who are both really well written, Zayne and Roth. Another reviewer said we all want a Roth - we do - or a Zayne. There are lots of good supporting characters too.
These books are expensive, especially as they have been written for a while but they’re worth it.
They do contain some sex scenes for younger readers to be aware of.
Zayne, Roth and Layla are looking for the same end result despite being on opposite sides. There are a lot of changes for Layla. It's not easy for her to make a decision which turns out to be the right one. Whichever way she goes is bound bound to upset someone.
There are some cheesy parts, but the overall concept trumps all. I absolutely love Roth and Layla. Cayman and Bambi bring that additional spark, but Bambi's fate is quite disheartening though.
Great storyline. Lovable and loving main characters. A fascinating journey in the paranormal world.
N.B i did pick up Storm and Fury, the sequel series to this and it is so so much better!
This book had me on the edge from the very first chapter, each plot twist was mind blowing. I am convinced JLA really wished to make me suffer because I shed many tears. When I finished the book, I sat quietly for awhile. I didn’t know what to do or think. All I knew was that these series won a place in my heart.
There were sad and happy moments. There was a lot of suspense and frustrations but our lovely Layla made through all of them. Layla came a very long way, from the very insecure girl to a selfless bad ass that believes in herself. There were so many revelations and I didn’t expect any of them, the truth was so far from what we thought... The new characters introduced were bittersweet, I loved Robin and the Grim but I wanted to fully murder the witches. I still can’t believe their price for helping Layla and I still can’t believe JLA did what she did. Again, cried like a baby.
Overall, this was an epic ending of the series. I will carry Roth and Layla in my heart and as I am writing this review, I am already planing to reread the series.
