A hit with young children since it was first published 10 years ago (Daily Express)

A can-do story with lively pictures and an immensely pleasing text. (Times Educational Supplement)

Brilliant use of colour, a continual sense of movement and high good humour all help to make this picture book richly enjoyable. (Carousel)

A gloriously colourful and lively book with a strong message. (Sunderland Echo)

Superb...a wonderfully funny book. (The Independent)

Extraordinary and exuberant...a terrific tale and a positive message about celebrating difference. (Bournemouth Echo)

A lovely rhyming picture book about understanding differences (motherandbaby.co.uk)

Lovely (Lytham St Annes Express)

This is a lovely story that incorporates several dance forms including waltz, tango, Scottish reel amd rock n roll. I have also used the story to introduce infant classes to Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata and had them playing along with it (SAME Magazine)

Giraffes Can't Dance ... has been a bestseller for more than 15 years - and for good reason ... There's a very powerful message in there about daring to be different, and accepting others too (Irish Daily Mail)

This rhyming story will delight young children and get them popping along with the rhythm (Evening Standard)

A rhyming story with superb illustrations... wonderfully funny. (Independent)

a joyful read about an outsider who finds acceptance on his own terms.... there's also a simple moral about tolerance and daring to be different. (Junior)

This delightful picture book is written in lively rhyming text with vivacious illustrations. (Junior)

Witty match of rollicking rhyme and bold colour. (Guardian)

A fantastically funny and wonderfully colourful romp of a picture book. All toddlers should grow up reading this or hearing their parents read it aloud to them. (Daily Telegraph)

5.0 out of 5 stars 🦒It is a beautiful book on self-acceptance and that everyone is special and different.

🦒This book is the first I have read from this author. Picked it up online because of the cover and the name. When the book arrived, we (my daughter and I) opened it and were like wow – before even reading the book the illustration took our breath away. It’s colourful, intriguing, catchy, appealing at the same time.
And as anyone would guess, we sat down to read it at once.
🦒It is a beautiful book on self-acceptance and that everyone is special and different. What you need to do is to find your song.
🦒It is a story of a Giraffe named Gerald, who is unable to waltz, tango, hip hop, or cha-cha like the other animals in the jungle on a Jungle dance day. The others knowing that he can’t dance makes fun of him, making him feel useless and sad.
🦒Unhappy, he leaves the dance and ventures towards a clearing in the jungle to look at the moon.
Where a cricket sees him and talks to him, making him realise that it’s not that he can’t dance, it’s just that he needs to find his song.
And then he finds his song and starts dancing to it. In the process, he realises that he isn’t useless, he is just different.
🦒The other point that I loved about this story is that I got to explain to my daughter the different forms of dances mentioned in the book.
🦒Overall, the book conveys a beautiful beautiful message to our young readers and even the parents, who are trying hard to make the kids fit in this competitive world i.e. let them find their song and sky would be their limit.
🦒My take. It’s a must-have for your kid’s collection.
🦒My personal favourite quote from the book –
“But sometimes when you're different
You just need a different song.”
