🦒This book is the first I have read from this author. Picked it up online because of the cover and the name. When the book arrived, we (my daughter and I) opened it and were like wow – before even reading the book the illustration took our breath away. It’s colourful, intriguing, catchy, appealing at the same time.
And as anyone would guess, we sat down to read it at once.
🦒It is a beautiful book on self-acceptance and that everyone is special and different. What you need to do is to find your song.
🦒It is a story of a Giraffe named Gerald, who is unable to waltz, tango, hip hop, or cha-cha like the other animals in the jungle on a Jungle dance day. The others knowing that he can’t dance makes fun of him, making him feel useless and sad.
🦒Unhappy, he leaves the dance and ventures towards a clearing in the jungle to look at the moon.
Where a cricket sees him and talks to him, making him realise that it’s not that he can’t dance, it’s just that he needs to find his song.
And then he finds his song and starts dancing to it. In the process, he realises that he isn’t useless, he is just different.
🦒The other point that I loved about this story is that I got to explain to my daughter the different forms of dances mentioned in the book.
🦒Overall, the book conveys a beautiful beautiful message to our young readers and even the parents, who are trying hard to make the kids fit in this competitive world i.e. let them find their song and sky would be their limit.
🦒My take. It’s a must-have for your kid’s collection.
🦒My personal favourite quote from the book –
“But sometimes when you're different
You just need a different song.”

About the Author
Giles Andreae is the author of many top-selling, award-winning picture books. These include Rumble in the Jungle, Commotion in the Ocean and I Love My Mummy. However, it is for the international bestseller Giraffes Can't Dance that he is best known. Giles is also the creator of Purple Ronnie, Britain's favourite stickman, and of the artist/philosopher, Edward Monkton. These two ranges of greetings cards, books and merchandise have made Giles the country's top-selling living poet. Giles lives with his wife, Victoria, a children's clothes designer, and their four young children by the river in Oxfordshire.
Guy Parker-Rees exuberant and energetic illustrations have made him a household name and one of today's bestselling children's illustrators. Notable successes include picture book classic Giraffes Can't Dance, a worldwide besteller; Spookyrumpus, winner of the Sheffield, Dundee and Portsmouth book awards, and the highly acclaimed All Afloat on Noah's Boat. Guy lives in Brighton with his wife and three sons.

Beautiful book with lovely illustrations about finding your own comfort zone, despite being different. The kids love it especially the dance illustrations and keep trying to copy them. The hardcover is especially good for little hands so the 2 year old can also enjoy turning the pages of the book without us worrying. And the 4 year old loves the story.

My toddler is aged ca. 20 months now and this is one of her favourite books. She recognizes a number of animals from other stories and books we read to her, and she thoroughly enjoys this one. Given the musical nature of this book, we have found a way of inserting our favourite songs at a number places where there are animals dancing and where the Giraffe is trying to discover the music he likes. It's been lovely so far.

Nice book. My son like going through this book. What he enjoys most is the part "Tinkle Tinkle Toot" and the different patterns of undies in the end ;-) :-)

What a fun book!
Reviewed in the United States on 18 November 2016Verified Purchase
I think this book is fun and I enjoy reading it. The quality of material is high, the colors are bright, and the short story is fun. My son is currently 17 months and has a hard time keeping attention long enough to get through this book but he still really enjoys it. I'm sure in a couple months we will be reading through it much easier!!
