Simone Singh is a feisty IPS officer who would rather spend her days locking up criminals than apologizing for her lack of social skills. Freshly back from an unjust suspension, Simone is forced to team up with DSP Zoya Bharucha, an empathetic officer who's as loved in the police force as Simone is shunned.
Tasked with hunting the Doll Maker-who dresses up her victims as pretty Barbie dolls and displays them in glass cases-both must set aside their differences and work together as one team. But Simone and Zoya know that time is running out to piece together the clues as the Doll Maker has made it clear that she has just begun.
Riveting and relentlessly paced, The Girl in the Glass Case is a jaw-dropping, psychological crime thriller that will keep you guessing till the last page.

'Full of intriguing characters and sharp plot twists. A typical thriller makes you break into instant sweat and feel stalked. Sardana's, for a change, makes you pause and mull over life's gains and losses.' The Hindu

The book is great but lets first address something else. The book(quality wise) according to me , is not up to Penguin standards. I believe this was done to keep the cost of the book as low as possible and as to get the book in as many hands as possible , because according to my understanding , THRILLER SELLS FASTER THAN ANY OTHER GENRE! But the situation for me personally was so bad (it felt like I was reading a pirated book that you get for 100 rupees of the streets), that despite getting a media copy , I purchased an eBook from my own pocket, just because I couldn't get myself to pick up the paperback and the story itself(which I'll get to in a minute), was very engaging. If you do decide to purchase the book , I'll suggest getting the Kindle version. Its both cheaper and easier to read.
Getting back to the point. I am familiar with the authors work as I did read his debut book , The Apple , about 2 years back. He is clearly very good at writing thrillers , given his very popular blog , 10x10 thrills and the success of his previous book. This one though is very different than his previous book. This is a crime fiction thriller unlike fantasy thriller , that was The Apple. The book as i previously mentioned is really engaging and unputdownable, though not flawless. The author at times had the tendency to spoon-feed a bit too much, to dumb down the plot , which got to me a little. Also , there was a plot-hole , which wasn't really a plot-hole , which I cannot discuss without getting into spoiler territory. I guess what I'm saying is the author could have constructed the plot differently to bypass that what seemed like a plot hole. If you have read the book , my DM's are open , lets discuss.
Now to quote He is We , "let me skip to the good part" .
Modern Day Bhopal. That's where the book is based. There are two serial killers on a killing spree , on e trying to compete with the other for more news coverage , what is according to him , "Fame". While , the other is on what they consider a sort-of rescue mission. A freshly back-from-suspension officer , Simone Singh , is in-charge of the "Doll-maker" case , who dresses up little boys after killing them and places them in glass cases and places them in various locations for the world to see. Her superior , Irshad Hussain , is in-charge of "The Clipper" case. It is a fairly old case and the clipper sends presents to DSP Hussain every month after every murder. Details of which , are so gruesome , I cannot even mention here.
Some might see the plot twist coming , but honestly speaking , i , who reads several thrillers , did not. Definitely worth picking up if you are a fan of the genre , though with the caveats mentioned above.
