In this classic of children's literature, beloved by generations of readers and listeners, the quiet poetry of the words and the gentle, lulling illustrations combine to make a perfect book for the end of the day.
In a great green room, tucked away in bed, is a little bunny. "Goodnight room, goodnight moon." And to all the familiar things in the softly lit room—to the picture of the three little bears sitting on chairs, to the clocks and his socks, to the mittens and the kittens, to everything one by one—the little bunny says goodnight.
One of the most beloved books of all time, Goodnight Moon is a must for every bookshelf and a time-honored gift for baby showers and other special events.

The sound of the words, the ideas they convey and the pictures combine to lull and reassure ― New York Times
The words are like an incantation, a spell - intoxicating for children and mercifully unannoying for parents, even on the hundredth reading. To hear the opening line of Margaret Wise Brown’s Goodnight Moon - “In the great green room” - is to embark on a Proustian reverie about a calm place with the lights turned low and a child snuggling sleepily in your arms. It seems as complete as a children’s book can be. ― The New York Times Published On: 2017-02-16
In a great green room a little bunny is tucked up snugly and safely in bed and is getting ready to say goodnight to all the familiar things in his room, one by one. This gentle story, loved by generations of children, is the perfect book to read to your toddler at bedtime (and hopefully lull them to sleep too) ― Mumsnet Best Books for 2 Year Olds (2nd April 2020)
The best lullaby-type book is Goodnight Moon – my two and a half year old daughter can recite it off by heart and reads it to her teddy after we leave her to go to sleep. It is a wonderful discovery, clever, sweet and just the thing before bedtime -- Mumsnet
Friends who are on their third child rave about it, and it is the accepted classic first book to buy for a baby ― Irish Independent --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

About the author

Margaret Wise Brown wrote hundreds of books and stories during her life, but she is best known for Goodnight Moon and Runaway Bunny. Even though she died over 45 years ago, her books still sell very well. Margaret loved animals. Most of her books have animals as characters in the story. She liked to write books that had a rhythm to them. Sometimes she would put a hard word into the story or poem. She thought this made children think harder when they are reading. She wrote all the time. There are many scraps of paper where she quickly wrote down a story idea or a poem. She said she dreamed stories and then had to write them down in the morning before she forgot them. She tried to write the way children wanted to hear a story, which often isn't the same way an adult would tell a story. She also taught illustrators to draw the way a child saw things. One time she gave two puppies to someone who was going to draw a book with that kind of dog. The illustrator painted many pictures one day and then fell asleep. When he woke up, the papers he painted on were bare. The puppies had licked all the paint off the paper. Margaret died after surgery for a bursting appendix while in France. She had many friends who still miss her. They say she was a creative genius who made a room come to life with her excitement. Margaret saw herself as something else - a writer of songs and nonsense.

I am going to purchase a new one soon because the current one is in bad condition because it travels with us everywhere.

The pages alternate between scenes of a room with various things inside it and zoomed view of individual things in Black and white. My 16 month old especially enjoys moving her eyes from left to right we look for different objects in a scene. Her favourite part is 'Good night to the old lady whispering HUSH'.
This book was a big hit with my first both as well as the second born. I have had this book for the last two years. The pages are very sturdy and the book has remained intact. A must addition to your toddler's library.
At 1st she didn’t showed interest but the very next day when I showed her she started listening to the book.. how we react while reading the book matters to the baby. So be happy louder and funnier in sounds while reading and this will gain more interest.
Happy parenting!!!!

I adore reading to my two little grandsons who, despite being just 2 and 3, have already developed a real passion for books. This one, however, just hasn’t grabbed their attention at all and is never picked from the shelf when it’s time for a bedtime story. I trust their judgement, so just two stars I’m afraid.
Thanks for reading my review. I hope you found it helpful. Check out my profile page for more reviews of toddler books and puzzles and educational toys and games.

We don’t read this book every night, but when we do, it’s like a mantra and sometimes when there’s sore teeth or a nightmare or a cold, it’s exactly what’s needed. It’s like medicine for mind (and not just for your child).
We have so many books for our little girl who is now 2, but this one remains the best one.

It’s my 16-month-old’s new favourite bedtime story.
It’s classic, yes but very sweet how it gets dark slowly using clever colouring without any gimmicks. The black-and-white pages are purposeful - mimicking seeing things in the dark.
I find many books these days have too many flaps and holes and textures when often the child’s favourites and those that spark imagination the most are just a plain, good old-fashioned story.
I bought this when my little one became fascinated by the moon but now his favourite thing to do is look for the little mouse which changes position on each coloured page. When he finds it, he squeaks.
Do not hesitate - buy this beautifully-written classic if you are looking for the perfect bedtime story.

It truly is a favourite in our household and I would recommend for any with small children, babies, toddlers. Such a nice story to get them talking about, and also help them drift off to sleep.
