This story is a stand-alone short story, but I know I would have enjoyed it so much more with a full knowledge of the prequel novels.
Was the hero a character in those books? It would be interesting to read how his acquaintance with the heroine was handled in previous books in the lead-up to this one.
This is a sweet story that pushes age boundaries for a typical historical romance with a 47 y. o. heroine and a hero 10 years her junior.
It is ok, but more romance development was needed for me.
This was my first Shana Galen story. She has a lovely writing style, but I think the short format is not a good way to judge her as a writer. I may try a full-length novel.
ONE KISS FOR CHRISTMAS by Vanessa Kelly
While short and sweet, for me this was the strongest story. Well-written protagonists and secondary characters. There was character development and I went along on the romance ride as the couple fell in love. I saw it happen. This is what makes a short story worthwhile in my opinion.
It was the first time I read something by this author, and I am interested in reading more now.
HIS CHRISTMAS CINDERELLA by Anna Campbell
This is the only of the 4 stories to include a very intimate, explicit sex scene. I think it would have been a good story without the sex (I can't believe I said that because I usually like sexy-times). The opening scene, in fact, had me nervous as the storyline introduces roles I don't usually care for - the heroine as a newly made mistress, a wealthy man appearing to use said mistress, and the use of a third person's property for the lovers' tryst. Usually, I would say "yuk" to all that.
That said, of the 4 stories, it was the one that had my heart racing in the hopes that it would end happily - probably because the heroine had risked so much.
As the story progressed, the author turned my unease with the roles of the protagonists into liking for the hero and sympathy for the heroine.
The best scene for me involved the stand-off between the hero's mother and the heroine's aunt. Their interactions led me to know those characters better.
I don't engage as much if I am told how the main couple fell in love before the story starts. I would like to have been there to see that happen, before the opening scene.
THE LAST FIRST KISS by Kate Noble
A lovely story. It was beautifully paced and light, the feel of an historical teenage romance (without the angst) and quite sweet.
My only reservation is that we were TOLD of the heroine's childhood/teenage love of the hero and didn't get to SEE it develop, presumably due to the short story format. So while I am happy for the heroine because she gets what she wants, I can't say why the hero is loveable or worthy.
We also read the conclusion to the story about Lady Winterson and her Philbert who are `greying' that particular year. That was lovely too.
This anthology was free from Amazon. A nice Christmas present, thank-you very much.

The second is about two nice people. She can't say no because she doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. He is the quiet and unassuming chap who is everyone's friend and who is always willing to help. So how does he triumph over the overbearing, cocky lord who thinks he is bound to get the girl?
The third is a variation on Cinderella, though with rather more sex and a somewhat different twist. This was the weakest of the set.
The final story features a pair of childhood chums. Girl loves boy, but he sees only his tomboy chum, so what happens when he goes away and comes back to find her all grown up? I ended up liking this one, but initially could not get comfortable with the slightly quirky writing style.
This was a freeby. The four stories made up about 83% of the Kindle file and each was long enough to set up a reasonable plot and give a feel for the author's style. Overall, a good "buy".
Reasonable start, nice to see a different take with characters older then expected. I felt the characterisation was a bit rushed though and left me feeling not as connected to the story as I would like
One Kiss for Christmas by Vanessa Kelly
I loved it, especially Nigel's personality. It was nice to see the blushing shy side man get a turn, as well as turn his testosterone on at times
honestly I felt this was too good for this collection and would have done better elsewhere or as a stand alone
5 stars, would give more if I could
His Christmas Cinderella
Very poor. The writing was over stated and written in a "on screen sex" from the start that didn't fit the rest of the collection.
Lachlan clearly thought with his dick rather than his brain considering the bungle he made of the situation
The Last First Kiss by Kate Noble
Written in a charming fairy tale style this story hooked me and made em fall in love with the characters during the beginning. This style however was dragged on too long, I soon tired of it (particularly the one or two words such as "yes, really" following an unusual name. this happened a lot in the first chapter) and was less enchanted by the end. The reoccurrence of a couple from an early story at the end of this tale though, and seeing them get a happy ending made me smile.
Overall I was dissatisfied with this collection, but maybe that was because I was expecting it to be about the upper class in their chaste manner, some romance that was more about society than getting it off in a cab!
Other people may get great enjoyment out of this, and I hope they do but it wasn't what I was expecting.
