The first Gypsum Sound Trails is my favourite thing that we have ever put out. There was something about all the stories that just worked, and each of them helped bring the fictional town of West Moreton, Arizona and its inhabitants to life.
Gypsum Sound Trails 2 (or A Return to West Moreton as it was originally known) is the first sequel that we have done to any of our collections, and I feel that the stories within are just as impressive as those in the original. Thank you to all the authors who have returned to continue their tales of the Markwell Gang, Smooth Kisses, and the township of West Moreton.

My sister hates feet. I don’t know why, but they have always made her cringe and cower. My brother and I found it amusing enough that we would send her photos of our feet whenever we could. Personally, I find feet a little intriguing. There is something about them that can be both attractive and repulsive. Toenails, though, well, that’s a whole different story…
Feet is Colp’s tenth collection (ten books, ten toes), and it is great that we were able to feature several stories that were not horror-based or pieces of speculative fiction.

I’ve always been fortunate enough to live within a fifteen-minute drive of the beach. As children, we would be there all the time, tackling waves on our boogie boards or shielding our pile of hot chips from the marauding seagulls. While visits may not be as frequent now that I’m an adult, there is still something calming about heading out into the surf. Well… most of the time.
By the Seaside is the eighth Thuggish Itch collection, and although lockdowns and rapid antigen tests slowed down its progress, we are proud to present these stories from a mix of frequent collaborators and GST first-timers.

Gypsum Sound Jails is a collection of stories that document the series of events that plague the staff and residents of Montwood Penitentiary, a large maximum security correctional facility located to the east of the city of El Paso, Texas. Our authors have painted a vivid picture of prison life in Montwood, their stories covering all aspects of the facility: from the prison gangs of the ¡Gamberro and 47 West to the woes of the correctional officers and the prison doctors.

Colp’s seventh collection, Black and Grey, contains fifteen stories that celebrate the art of tattooing. Each looks at the profession and process in a different way and, when viewed as a package, do a good job at capturing the buzz of the tattoo gun and the grimace on the first timer’s faces. You never know, maybe one of them will inspire you to get a little ink done yourself.

Just before the tunnel is a gate. A gate that is locked up tight with several thick chains and even thicker padlocks. Signs line the chainlink fence scream ‘Keep out’ and ‘Close the gate’. Not that unusual I hear you say; a chained up gate, there must be thousands of these all over the place. But this gate leads to nowhere. There is no building, no industrial property or driveway that leads to a house in the distance. Just a patch of yellowing grass and not much else. Each time I drive passed, I wonder what the point of the gates are, and why it was so important that they remain closed.
Thuggish Itch’s sixth collection, Close the Gate, features eighteen short stories from a group of authors from all over the world. There are some great stories here, all of which involved gates, doors and rooms that should remain closed (but are invariably opened).

Established in 1957, the Quémado copper mine can be found 10 km (6 miles) north of Barvina, Chile and is the world’s third biggest producer of copper. The mine is currently the property of the Vonco Mining Corporation Limited, a British company with several holdings across South America and northern Africa. The mine has been in consistent use since its establishment, but still manages to produce 335,000 tonne of copper each year as well as sizeable amount of molybdenum and rhodium. It consists of several smaller pits, smelter, refinery and an open pit—one of the world’s largest—measuring in at 4 km (2.5 miles) long, 3 km (1.8 miles) wide and over 920 m (0.6 miles) deep.
For Gypsum Ground Tales, we have put together the stories of some of our favourite authors, each of which is set in and around the fictional Quémado copper mine in northern Chile. Each story reflects the style of its author and, when all put together, flesh out the city of Barvina and its residents. I hope you enjoy them, thanks for reading.

Sometimes, being alone is a wonderful thing. Time to think, to reminisce, to prepare for what comes next. Other times, it’s a brutal nightmare; the sheer lack of human interaction sending one into what feels like an endless downward spiral.
Colp’s sixth collection, Solitude, contains fifteen stories, each of which provides a portrayal of what it is like to be alone; whether that be through the eyes of an old man wandering the halls of a retirement community late at night, the actions of a soldier traumatised by war or the thoughts of a young lady who truly feels that she has no one.

Please ring bell if the desk is unattended. The hospitality industry is one that I rely on quite heavily. I like to travel, I like to eat out, and prefer to take public transport as opposed to driving anywhere myself; particularly in a busy city like Sydney. These people just make things so much easier, and I feel that sometimes we end up taking them for granted. So, thank you. Thank you to anyone reading this who may have served me a meal, made me a drink or driven me home at the end of a long night.
Thuggish Itch’s fifth collection, Hospitality, features sixteen short stories from some of our favourite authors. From haunted hotels and tainted lunch buffets to an unwanted guest in a restaurant fish tank, each story pays homage to the industry.

West Moreton, Arizona, USA, 1874.
A tumbleweed twists and turns on Main Street as Boone Markwell and the rest of the Markwell Gang head for the saloon and the liquor that waited within. The day is long and there is much to be done before the sun sets behind the mountains. On the other side of the road, the shopkeeper bows his head, opting to stare at the dusty ground than make eye contact with the gunslinger. A dog barks in the distance, followed closely by a woman's yell, and Boone feels his finger slip to the butt of his revolver; the movement smooth and instinctive.
For Gypsum Sound Trails, we invited some of our favourite collaborators to write their own western centred in and around the fictional Arizonan town of West Moreton and its inhabitants, including the infamous Markwell Gang. Each story reflects the style of its author while helping create a realistic western community.

My wife and I watched a monster movie back in December, right around Christmas time. Normally, that wouldn’t have been my preferred film genre of choice, but it had been a long day full of food and family and, for whatever reason, this one managed to hold my attention.
About midway through, at that climatic part where they finally reveal the monster fully for the first time, a thought hit me. Why are these monsters never really that big? I asked my wife. Sure we get sea beasts with tentacles that stretch for tens of metres and skyscraping-climbing primates that tower over the average human, but where are the primates that are the size of a skyscraper? Where are the sea beasts with tentacles the thickness of a train carriage?
Big is home to a collection of stories that feature large, enormous or gigantic characters and concepts and, in this situation, it is most definitely a case of bigger is better.
