(Reviewed first on For The Love of Fictional Worlds)
After Harry Potter, it was Percy Jackson that pretty much hooked me - in fact, till today, these two are the only worlds that I will always have an hankering to go back to!
So when Like Queen Rowling, when Uncle Rick comes out with a new series (with a tease about the appearance of Percy Jackson!), you don't say WHATTT?? YOU JUST FREAKING PRE-ORDER THE HELL OUT OF IT :D
And that's exactly what I did! :P
Just a little heads up though, it would be better if you read The Percy Jackson Series and the Heroes of Olympus Series (in THAT EXACT reading order!), for there are characters that make re-appearance (YAY!!) and circumstances that are referred to, that you can only get the reference if YOU HAVE READ the aforementioned series :D
This new series is about the God Apollo, - and when you have a God turned to a whiny, pubsecent teenage boy, you know you have a gold mine in sarcasm, humor and repartee that Uncle Rick is so famous for!
Here's the thing - after a while, all the demi-gods stories tend to blend into one another, even though I adore Percy Jackson and the subsequent Heroes of Olympus Series (I need a re-read!), Sword of The Summer, became my least favorite of all.
But just when I think Uncle Rick has reached his pinnacle, he throws The Hidden oracle at me :P
Apollo isn't much of a human being - suffering from the narcissism and fallacy of being a GOD, he is entitled, whiny and absolutely irritating - AND I LOVED HIM!!
I mean, not as a character, but the fact that Uncle Rick made it so that he was literally unlikable at the start and for most of the story - I am not kidding - Apollo, as a God of Haiku and War was an ass but as a teenage boy, he is absolutely UNBEARABLE!!
For now that he has to survive Zeus's punishment, he has more than a prophecy to fulfill - he has a journey to make and things to understand. - not that he knows this of course.
And Camp Half Blood isn't exactly complete without the appearance of old favorites - seriously, I had tears in my eyes when I realized it was Percy that Apollo went back to for help - though it was weird to view him from a third POV - honestly guys, it was such a trippy experience!! I KID YOU NOT!
For those who believe that Uncle Rick lost his charm after The Sword of Summer (YIKES!) - YOU NEED TO READ THIS - because this book, in my opinion is one of the best works by Uncle Rick - it has a protagonist that you just can't help be irritated with, it has a bit more angsty and a plot that is intended for a bit more mature audiences.
Coupled with the typical snarky Uncle Rick style of writing - you literally have a winner!!

The cutest thing in this book is the 5 lines that Nico and Will have 😂✨
*Pssst* There's finally a CHB map in this book. Hardback is very pretty.

Another Camp Half Blood Adventure, this time with a God turned human. Read it, laugh with it, and pray that the demigods from the earlier books make it through another ordeal alive. Seriously, just pray (not to Apollo, though).

After reading the heroes of Olympus series, this is a good book to read. It also has Percy in its starting parts. And it is very interesting as Apollo has always been a great GOD.

It's just as amazing as the last two series. Uncle Rick is the best writer. I love the way Apollo looks at the mortal world and thinks that "Where have I come?" It's truly amazing and it's really worth a read, well.....a thousand reads.😋😉😀👍👍👍

Its a nice book and all but I think you guys missed a clue....Percy mentioned Annabeth was in Boston for a family problem. Thats where Magnus Chase was. Also in The Blood of Olympus (not sure) Annabeth mentions about her uncle in Boston. Rick makes things connect :).

I don't know where to start.
The basic story of this book is that the Greek god Apollo is sent to earth and striped of his immortality and godliness by his dad, the god of the sky Zeus. So now Apollo has to fend for himself and reach Camp half-blood.l, as he is just a sitting duck for monsters and demons anywhere else.
Then he gets to know that the Oracles are not working I.e. not giving any more prophecies. As he is the god of Prophecies, he is the one sent to recover them. And the story continues....
If you have read the Percy Jackson series and the Heroes of Olympus, then this book will not disappoint. Another enthralling book by Rick Riordan. I much prefer it to Magnus Chase

WHAT SHOULD I SAY ABOUT THIS BOOK?
I have read all series by Rick Riordan and this was the last one I read. It is an awesome book and you can never imagine such a story! All the 5 books of the series are amazing and when it finished I was actually sad for days because for me that adventure ended. All the Rick Riordan books have a kind of same effect when it ends. Anyway a MUST READ

The story is well written from Apollo's view. It's like a rich dad's kid who never knew the life of poor people would suddenly become poor. Mind blowing.
Plus this book also comes with a short story by Rick Riordan on Percy Jackson called 'Percy Jackson and the Sword of Hades'.
While reading this book I felt the need to read the 'Heroes of Olympus' book series as there are lots of references.
The book arrived packaged in bubble wrap in a plastic bag (I was expecting cardboard wrapping, but that's fine).

You see quite a few old characters from Percy Jackson's books in this, but you still got a whole new set of MC's which was interesting to see.
My first little love of this book was the chapter beginnings - they all had a small Haiku at the beginning. They were amusing little anecdotes that gave you an idea of what may happen in the chapter you were on, and they will also definitely give you a little smile whenever you start on a new chapter.
When it comes to Apollo as a character he was one of my favourites out of them all - possibly one of my favourites from all the Percy Jackson books. He was funny throughout the whole book, and also gave me a few chuckles (I rarely laugh out loud when reading) and it was great to see his character development as he learnt to be more human - he slowly started to notice mistakes he was making in both his behaviours and actions and he started to change into a better person.

A good book but don't ask a teenager.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 November 2018Verified Purchase
I bought the Trials of Apollo book for my teenage daughter as she loves Rick Riordan books.
I asked her if it's as good as the Percy Jackson books. She shouted the following reply at me: How do I know if it's as good I've not read it all yet! I asked our resident translator what this means, my wife replied it means she likes it.

I am classed as a mature reader and not the "target" audience however I really enjoyed this! I am a big fan of the Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus series. I liked the perspective of Apollo, as the storyteller and the journey started in this book. Having re-read all the others before starting this one I did notice a few hints to this book, however you don't need to have read them before (but I would recommend it so you understand the reactions to apollo!)

It’s nice to see a change up in Riordan’s structure, by starting with comedy (the chapter poem things are brilliant) and then not focusing too much on demi gods but still having them part of the story. Having Apollo become a mortal teenager and focusing on him is brilliant and really works, I definitely enjoyed this. It’s not as strong as the end of the Heroes of Olympus series, but it doesn’t need to be - it’s still a good, fun story. It also felt a little more middle grade than HoO did which is a nice return to form, though that may just be Apollo coming across as immature ;)
