I have read half the book and so far all the stories revolve around death and I found them a disturbing read. Well, that's an individual perspective.
On a literary note, the language is simple and easy to follow. I did not find the literary style to be captivating and it seems unlikely that I will be finishing the book.
A classic case of misplaced expectations!!! Should have practiced what Sri M has always advocated. :)
The simple words have a hidden message, if your re-read you may reach the depths of it. It will not interest you if tend to judge merely it on the surface. You will need to see beyond what’s written, contemplate, may be even meditate to understand.
A bunch of dark short stories. i see or sense nothing worth taking from this book as against his previous works. I read all of it for a few million times, especially the very first book . The apprentice to the himalayan masters'.

The second reason is equally important. If you've read the author's autobiography he starts by mentioning that some of the factual assertions may be hard to believe (or unbelievable). Thus in this fiction collection the author is able to posit some incredible fictions and fire the reader's imagination. For example the auhtor's discussion of the 'vamana" as a vehcle of transportation (on this earth, and in his autobiography he asserts it as a Shvehicle for interplanetary travel). Likewise the author is able to refer to cultural mores to context things without having to defend them as "true." (medicines and spiritual practices, for instance).
In any case I find this book much more effective that his first novel Shunya, but I suppose that one would expect such growth in an author.
I am amazed and dismayed that one person gave a one star review but gave no written justification for what I consider a cowardly act.
A new book has come out, in India costs $6- how much is your corporation going to charge, Amazon.
