In this New York Times bestselling sequel to Kerri Maniscalco's haunting #1 debut Stalking Jack the Ripper, bizarre murders are discovered in the castle of Prince Vlad the Impaler, otherwise known as Dracula. Could it be a copycat killer . . . or has the depraved prince been brought back to life?
Following the grief and horror of her discovery of Jack the Ripper's true identity, Audrey Rose Wadsworth has no choice but to flee London and its memories. Together with the arrogant yet charming Thomas Cresswell, she journeys to the dark heart of Romania, home to one of Europe's best schools of forensic medicine . . . and to another notorious killer, Vlad the Impaler, whose thirst for blood became legend.
But her life's dream is soon tainted by blood-soaked discoveries in the halls of the school's forbidding castle, and Audrey Rose is compelled to investigate the strangely familiar murders. What she finds brings all her terrifying fears to life once again.

Praise for Hunting Prince Dracula:
A New York Times bestseller!
"Combining historical fiction, romance, forensics, a feisty heroine, a swiftpaced plot, gobs of murders, and historical illustrations, Maniscalco pulls in the reader for a wonderfully bloody romantic romp."―Booklist
"Audrey Rose is a smart, fearless, and progressive heroine. Plenty of red herrings, a conspicuous absence of blood, and a developing romance make this a must-read."―School Library Journal
"There are plenty of suspects and red herrings as well as tense escalations....A scenic, twisty mystery."―Kirkus Reviews
"Readers of the previous mystery will be thrilled to have more of this likable duo. [A] delightful romp into an 1888 Gothic mystery with a hint of romance."―School Library Connection
Praise for Stalking Jack the Ripper:
A #1 New York Times Bestseller from its first week!
"An entertaining debut full of twists and turns, perfect for fans of historical fiction and mystery."
―School Library Journal

*"This audiobook has everything: a true-life tale that has intrigued readers for 100-plus years, a young woman who balks at the constraints put upon women during the Victorian era, a marvelous yet somewhat gruesome mystery, and a narrator who brings you down into Spitalfields as Jack the Ripper earns his name. A must-have."―School Library Journal *starred review*
"Audrey is a young woman eager to use her brains and willing to flaunt society's rules....This mystery pays homage to classics like Doyle's Sherlock Holmes and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein [and] will satisfy those readers looking for historical mystery, a witty heroine, and a little romance."

When I read Stalking Jack the Ripper, I thought a story couldn't get better than this and yet I'm happily surprised with Hunting Prince Dracula. The story is amazing and the twists and turns had me hungry for more, specially because I just could not guess what might happen next. I had a huge list of suspects and then they ended up dying too! Woooh! I finished this book super fast and I absolutely enjoyed every bit of it.

This was truly fantastic. Deliciously gothic, dark and just perfect. To be honest, I wasn't the biggest fan of the first book and was fully expecting the plot to derail henceforth. However, Kerri Maniscalco didn't disappoint. She overturned the story and smoothed over the flaws of the first book in such a way that was awe inspiring and magnificent. I'm really impressed by the conceptualization. Main characters solving crimes in different parts of the world using forensic science?? YES, PLEASE.
What attracts me the most about this series is that my knowledge of Jack The Ripper, Dracula, Houdini etc is exceptionally limited and I'm really liking the learning aspect of the reading experience. Miss Kerri has given these infamous stories a unique, twisted and addictive take.
The setting of the story was perfect. Students of forensic science fighting for two spots in an academy located in a gothic castle which was previously home to Vlad The Impaler, all the while dealing with the vampire styled deaths happening in the castle. There was so much intrigue in the story regarding romanian lore and identity of the murderer.
Talking about the characters, it took me two books but I finally get the Thomas Cresswell hype. Got to admit, the guy is as much of a smooth talker as there was any. I'm finally feeling charmed by him and not thinking of him as a Sherlock wannabee. Audrey Rose is so fierce and bright. I love being in her mind. The PSTD and anxiety rep was extremely well done. The only think about this book that bothers me sometimes is the main character's tendency to go about facing danger with a scalpel. I, for one, would definitely take something bigger for my dracula hunting adventures. lol
Also, I highly recommend taking the audiobook route with this one. The narrator did such a good job with the story!

This may be an unpopular opinion but I could barely get through this book. A pity, because I really liked the first one. Let me list the issues I had with this installment:
1. The main character Audrey Rose - She is the absolute WORST. While her feminist spunk was appreciated in the first book, here she becomes an exaggerated version of everything she stood for. I mean, I'm a woman and a feminist but even I was rolling my eyes muttering 'Enough already! We get it!'. Her turbulent hot and cold emotions due to PTSD got redundant real quick and annoying thereafter. If I come across as stone hearted for saying that then so be it. I'm here for a good mystery, not for a lesson on PTSD. Her actions throughout the book indicate that she is devoid of common sense yet full of misplaced pride in her own abilities which is an unfortunate combination.
2. The romance - The will-they-wont-they witty flirting between Audrey and Thomas was amusing to read in the first book. However in book two, I wanted to see some progress in their relationship. Instead we get more of the same flirty bickering interspersed with longing sidelong glances at each other. Thomas seems to have no personality other than being in love with Audrey and given the time period, his behavior at times is downright inappropriate not to mention unrealistic.
3. The rushed story line - At the end of Stalking Jack the Ripper I was looking forward to seeing Audrey and Thomas heading to Romania to study forensics. Unfortunately the author did not take any time to set the tone, the setting or the atmosphere before jumping head first into the action. Right away on the train we get our first murder victim. And almost immediately we see possible suspects lurking everywhere. Rather convenient for our sleuths I must say.
4. I can't put my finger on it but the language and dialogue here is very pretentious. Like someone who is clearly not British trying desperately to sound like an upper class Englishman/woman but it reads like a parody instead. And did I mention the melodramatic monologues? They made me want to reach in and knock some sense into the MC.
The spark from the first book was clearly missing here.

It keeps getting better and better!

This series just keeps getting better and better. Hunting Prince Dracula is the much-awaited sequel to Maniscalo’s Stalking Jack the Ripper, a retelling from the point of view of a high-class young lady with a passion for forensic medicine, named Audrey Rose. Audrey Rose finds herself involved with the various murders of the infamous Ripper and with the help of a fellow apprentice, a devilishly handsome Thomas Creswell. Without spoiling the first book, the second book follows directly from the events of the first, this time the duo finds themselves caught up in yet another murder mystery but rather than hiding throughout the streets of London, the killer is lurking in the shadows of a Romanian castle, the legendary home to Vlad the Impalar, another infamous murderer.
I have to say I enjoyed the second more than the first. Although I rated the first book at 5/5 stars I do recall moments where I felt the book slowed down and did drag slightly. With the sequel, however, this wasn’t an issue, I was gripped throughout, the background to the story was perfect for the murderous mystery unfolding, it was the perfect form of horror for me.
Audrey Rose has to be one of my favourite fictional characters, she’s strong, fearless and not afraid to stand up to those who try to treat her as though she is unworthy or incapable based purely on her gender (which is quite common with the book being set in 1888) she stands out in a way which is admirable in characters, and despite the growing feelings between herself and another character, she continues to put her own needs first, pushing romance to the back to ensure she succeeds in what she wants.
Thomas was as flirty and funny as he always was, I liked the tension between him and Audrey Rose as, despite his attitude otherwise, it shows that underneath he is a true gentleman. I liked how they were both in sync at times, and rather than Thomas attempting to take control and ‘save’ her. I liked how he truly understood her feelings towards forensic medicine and the troubles she regularly goes through while battling to prove that she is just as good as the men around her.
I enjoyed the twist in the reveal, I was concerned that after the first book, the second would struggle with keeping people in the dark with the big reveal, but it did not disappoint. Despite the frustration in trying to work out who it was, I loved the surprise that came with the reveal. I can only hope that the series continues to be as surprising since my expectations on what will happen to keep rising as I finish each book.
Overall this book was incredible.

After waiting a long time to buy it, I finally bought SJTR and I really enjoyed it. The book as a whole was so good and I could tell that a lot of thorough research was done for writing this book(one of the topics I studied in History was Whitechapel which mostly focused on Jack the Ripper). But, there was one thing that made me decide to give this a 4.5 star rating instead of a 5 and that was Audrey Rose and Thomas’ relationship. I thought that seeing as there are going to be 4 books in the series, that they’d finally kind of get together/admit they like each other in the second book at least but instead that happened halfway through SJTR.
But what I did enjoy was:
-The anticipation of finding out who Jack the Ripper was and I one point I was suspecting everyone including Nathaniel
-The closer I got to the end the more sure I was of who Jack was and I was right but it wasn’t annoying because of that plot twist at the end
-Thomas Cresswell’s humour and the banter between him and Audrey Rose
-Audrey’s relationship with her brother was (in my opinion) sweet how they looked out for each other
-As I’ve already said; the research put into writing this book
-The gothic pictures added to give more of an eerie sense but also really helped with imagining what was going on.
Those are all I can remember at the moment but I’m definitely sure there were many other things I enjoyed. I ordered the next book already and I’ve been told it’s better than the first so I can’t wait to get started on it!!

I should probably apologise for all the fangirling now, but I won't.
I struggle to recall sequels that live up to the first book in a series, but this one builds on STALKING JACK THE RIPPER perfectly. Kerri Maniscalo's writing is witty, evocative, and downright eerie at times.
This book had everything that I love: a clever plot, swoon-inducing moments, nail-biting tension, humour, and did I mention the SWOON?!
I love love love Audrey Rose so much. I swoon so hard for Thomas Cresswell. The wait for book 3 will be sheer torture, but I've no doubt it will be worth the torturous wait.

After reading Stalking Jack the Ripper, picking this one up was a no brainer for me. I love how completely you get dragged into the era the book is set in, and I defy anyone to not fall in love with Audrey Rose and Thomas.
Though I wouldn't classify this as a thriller it definitely kept me up at night after reading... spiders "shiver". Thoroughly unputdownable and I will be reading the 3rd instalment as soon as it is released.

I loved this series and enjoyed this book! I enjoyed the setting and found myself feeling genuinely freaked out as the story advanced. I think the author has an exceptional gift at building the scene, and I lost myself in this book, like a film was playing in my mind.
I really recommend this book and by extension the series.
