Great to help specially preschool and additional needs children to get to grips with emotions
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 September 2016Verified Purchase
My once calm, kind and easy going three year old has become a tantrum throwing, humphing and grotty threenager since the birth of her little sister, I exaggerate slightly but her behaviour has become challenging and anger is 'in control' more than it used to be and I wanted to help give her the skills to recognise her own emotions and find coping strategies when they become a problem for her.
This book is great for differentiating between core emotions and appreciating there are different aspects of emotions and the feelings associated with the core ones such as anxiety is part of fear .
It is excellent in the fact it gently alludes to why they are each sometimes good or useful (anger shows how it can be turned to passion by enjoying sports games) and also when they can be problematic or unreasonable (disgust hates feet but we can't do away with them!) in very simple sentences. Us adults can extrapolate the meaning giving room for discussion with young children about is this a good way to feel, what can we do about it.
It's still early days but I think this has had an impact on my daughter, she is engaged by the fact it's characters from the film but responds to discussion about what each emotion says. We do 'emotion in charge' throughout the day especially if I can recognise a tantrum brewing and then I'm using other strategies to help deal such as a calming breath book called 'every breath a smile' if her anger hasn't gone past the pale.
Highly recommended.

Great for autism.

Love these books - they have really helped my autistic daughter to recognise and communicate basic emotions. Would recommend to anyone who has an autistic child responsive to colours, visualisation and character sets.

well thought edition, emotions well explained. suitable for all ages
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 January 2016Verified Purchase
Very well thought edition, love the little opening in the box to display the emotion of the day. We recite the emotions when reading these books to our son (2yo) and he simply loves it, even if he did not see the movie yet. This product is clear and having seen the movie is not necessary to enjoy the reading of the five little books.

she is very good with books so the only damage so far is ...

Bought as a birthday present for my 2 year old, absolutely loves it, she adores the film and characters and is obsessed with the books.
Well worth every penny, although do bear in mind these are thin paper pages, she is very good with books so the only damage so far is a little colouring in on a couple of their eyes :)

Huge disappointment- will not use them!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 July 2019Verified Purchase
Very disappointed with this set of books. They do not not teach any values I would want to be instilled in my child, and the stories are very weak and heavily sarcastic. Especially disappointing given how good the movie was. Genuinely surprised Disney has given its name to this.
