Isabella (Trevelyan Family Book 1) Kindle Edition
At the advanced age of 26, the independent, wealthy and imminently practical Isabella Latham has no expectation of marriage. But, good-hearted and dutiful, Isabella accompanies her two young country cousins to oversee their London debut...only to find that it's she who is attracting suitors...all of whom do seem to have quite an excess of creditors!
There's the sinfully sexy Basil Trevelyan, a rake through and through, but so charming that even sensible Isabella is almost tempted. But then there's his maddeningly handsome—and maddeningly arrogant!—cousin, Edward Trevelyan, seventh Earl of Hartleigh, who has no need of Isabella's dowry; but whose adorable orphaned ward needs a mama. Could he love Isabella for herself? Isabella is too busy trying to decide whether to kiss him—or kill him!
Poor, poor Isabella. What's a girl to do? But more importantly...who's a girl to choose?

This book was really disappointing , a waste of time. I can't believe this is even by Loretta Chase, it's just not her usual style of writing , the depiction and quality of characters not in the same sphere as Lord Perfect, Dukes Prefer Blondes, Not Quite a Lady etc.
This book is written in passive language and has nothing going on in it other than shallow dialogue, gossip with really poor character There was little to like in any of the characters because of the superficiality, there is no satisfactory conclusion to make the completion of the story worthwhile. This book does reflect the Author’s usual standard or contain a single redeeming quality.
I just can't even believe Loretta Chase wrote this book. I could go on and on about what a great story Lord Perfect is and how well it's written. Lord Perfect is up there in the stratosphere of the greatest books ever written, romance or not, and I Just. Can't. Even. that Isabella was written by the same author who wrote Lord Perfect.
The story is a fairly typical one of the genre, with amusing characters and a reasonably enjoyable love story - in which the supporting characters are worth paying attention to, as they provide a lot of the humour and amusement value. One of the usual regency romance clichés also gets turned on its head!
It's not Georgette Heyer, let alone Jane Austen, or even one of the author's best novels - although the sequel IS one of her best novels, and in my opinion you will get more out of "The English Witch" if you read "Isabella" first. This is, however, an entertaining way to spend an hour or so..
