About John Wilker
The first story I ever wrote was a harrowing tale of beloved comic strip favorite, Ziggy, saving the Seattle Space Needle and by extension the world, from alien domination. I was about 11, copyright wasn't a thing I knew about back then. Still a good story though, I won an award!
Since then storytelling has always worked its way into my life and my work. I've always loved underdog stories; the ragtag crew just trying to get by in a ship that isn't shiny or new. Space Rogues and the Grand Human Empire were born from that love. If you're a fan of Firefly, Omega Force, Spinward Fringe, etc. You'll feel right at home in the universes of Wil Calder and Jackson Caruso.
I live in Denver, with my awesome wife, Nicole, and our dog, Paco, I’m a member of SFWA. I love Denver, except shoveling snow, and love being outdoors whenever I can, especially if it's a rooftop patio, and there's beer :)

Wil Calder is looking for a crew. He isn’t being picky. He should be.
With a crew of misfits from across the Galactic Commonwealth, Wil takes a job.
Break into a space station. Straightforward enough.
A space station that the galaxy’s criminals use to store their loot.
An untested crew. A heist. What could go wrong?
As often happens, Wil and new his crew get more than they bargained for.
A lot more. Like galactic conspiracy, more.
Now it’s up to a bunch of misfits and the only human to leave our solar system to save the Galactic Commonwealth from civil war.
No pressure, right?
Change comes in all shapes and sizes, and sometimes it finds you in the bar of a family-friendly restaurant named after a day of the week!
Jax, Naomi, and the droids find themselves in an empire-spanning game of cat and mouse against one of the biggest corporations in the empire.
While Jax struggles with some old traumas, the team must keep an unwanted client alive and free him from a delivery he can’t make.
Jax thought organized crime was tough. He’s never been on the wrong side of a mega-corp, until now.
- 'A Guy Walks Into a Bar
- Here, There Be Monsters
- Big Ship, Lots of Trouble
- Rogue Enterprises
Bennie strikes out on his own, temporarily. Not intentionally, the rest of the team is busy. He does have an apprentice now, so there’s that.
It’s a long story.
When Bennie took on the mantle of Knight of Plentallus he thought it’d be free food, ribbon cuttings, and cool toys. It is all that, but also, it turns out, a lot more.
Nic, the young Olop girl he met when the team was aboard the Galactic Empress, wants to be a Knight of Plentallus.
It’s not that Bennie doesn’t think she can do it, he just isn’t interested.
Events decide for him when he and his young charge get sucked into the machinations of a political opportunist and one of the more powerful organized crime syndicates on Multon.
Now it’s all about saving an innocent woman, taking down the syndicate, and not calling the team for help.
Can they save the day? Find out.
Sometimes it’s good to get back to basics. For Wil and the crew, that means a heist!
What are they stealing?
Why?
For whom?
As they say, ‘The galaxy laughs when we make plans.’
Now it’s a race against time to save the life of one of their own before their past fully catches up to them.
With a little help from an old friend, they just might pull it off.
It’s not polite to eavesdrop, but it can be profitable.
What starts as a celebration of Jax’s grounding being lifted, turns into an Empire-spanning scavenger hunt.
Naomi hates scavenger hunts.
Jax likes money. Plus he's been grounded for a month and wants, or rather needs to get away from Kelso station.
What’s at the end of the hunt? Ghosts. Ghosts and memories of what could have been.
Do Jax and Naomi win the hunt? Only one way to find out!
Wil and the crew of the Ghost have been hired as security consultants for the galaxy's newest, biggest, and most luxurious cruise ship's maiden voyage.
Sounds perfect, relax in the lap of luxury on someone else's dime. Except, of course, that's not what happens.
While a war rages on the outer edges of the Galactic Commonwealth, something more base is taking shape aboard the Galactic Empress.
It's ok though, Bennie has a laser sword.
Everywhere he and Naomi turn, bespoke suited thugs are trying to kill them.
When the Governor of Kelso station hires them to take her to a summit on the Imperial homeworld of New Terra, it’s the kind of straightforward job Jax likes.
Naomi has other ideas.
One thing leads to another and now it’s not just the Crimson Orchid that is hot on their heels, but a mysterious Imperial agent.
Can they shake two very determined groups?
Find out!
