Once the model is made the book looks a bit messy with all the pieces removed. Its a shame this didn’t come as a two pack, with the model pieces in a separate bag or box. However there are plenty of books out there on dinosaurs. I’d recommend the ‘Survival Guide’ book for Fallen Kingdom, its very informative with a lot more in depth facts and knowledge. Overall though this is an excellent model book, highly recommended to fans of the films.
The model itself is relatively easy to build, and is bigger than I expected, but it doesn't look that realistic and my son seems to think it's quite funny. He really enjoyed helping build it however, and it's sat on this shelf on display.
I think the creators of this book would have done better to keep the information part separate from the building pieces - now that it's built, it's left a lovely hardback A4 book filled with mostly empty foam-piece pages, with the information pages glued to the inside cover in the form of a slim paperback book/booklet. I looked to see if this could be removed, but it's glued in pretty tight and I'm worried that it will rip.
Other than this, any young fan of the Jurassic World movies should have fun building the dinosaur and reading the information contained in the book.
The book opens and has on attached to the inside leaf of the left hand cover a small book, entitled "Raptor Lab Book and Model", there is a page or two of introduction which is fantastically illustrated with photos and art work and then two page spreads of dinosaurs, including historical facts; jurassic world stats and film reference with a brilliant freeze frame picture from the film or illustration accompanying it on the facing page.
The style of illustration is that of a computer screen or data files. In addition to the raptor there are notes on the T-Rex and other sea, air and land dinosaurs followed by five pages of illustrated guide to folding and assembling the paper model of the raptor from the sheets of pop out card which form the main bulk of the "book" (protected by a fine plastic envelope or wrap around).
The information on the dinosaurs is a little brief and there is as much or more information about the film franchise than the ancient beasts. However, I think this is something that child could enjoy by themselves or, more likely, could assemble with the help of an adult and read alongside an adult. As such I think it could be considered educational, at least encouraging reading and encouraging an interest in dinosaurs which could lead to further reading elsewhere.
