Thin and light for one-handed reading
New - The all-new Kindle is 11% thinner and 16% lighter than the previous generation Kindle, making it easy and comfortable to hold in one hand.
No eye strain, reads like real paper
Kindle uses actual ink particles and proprietary, hand-built fonts to create crisp text similar to what you see in a physical book. The blacks and whites on the screen are uniform, improving text and image quality.
Unlike tablets, no blue light to disturb your sleep
Recent studies have shown that evening exposure to blue light from backlit screens like tablets and smartphones can suppress the body’s production of melatonin, a naturally occurring hormone that helps the body fall asleep. Because the Kindle display emits no light, you can read anytime without losing sleep.
No glare in bright sunlight
Unlike reflective tablet and smartphone screens, the high contrast touchscreen display eliminates glare in any setting –even direct sunlight.
Battery lasts weeks, not hours
Kindle doesn’t need power to maintain a page of text, allowing you to read for weeks on a single charge.
Thousands of books, no distractions
Kindle is designed as a dedicated e-reader. Indulge your love of reading without interruptions like email alerts and push notifications.
Sharp, dark text
Enjoy text that reads like the printed page. All fonts have been hand-tuned at the pixel level for maximum readability and comfort.
Take and share notes
Add margin notes that you can edit, delete, or even export from your device to your computer. Share highlighted sections and meaningful quotes on Facebook, Twitter, and Goodreads, and see passages frequently highlighted by other Kindle readers.

WHAT THIS KINDLE HAVE AND PAPERWHITE DOESN'T::: this kindle has a "Voiceview screen reader", it means if you connect to a bluetooth speaker it will read the book aloud for you. this option is not there in paperwhite..
battery::: at beginning when you charge once you can use it for a week, but no it drains in five to six days an it also depends on how much you read. also, if you switch on wifi then battery may drain in two days or even quicker. you should e on airplane mode to get good battery life. when you connect to your computer it takes one and half hour to two hours to charge full. when it got fully charged indicating light turn to green from orange.
screen::: it have touch screen, which is so sensitive. when you are reading if a house fly sits on screen it activates the screen and it will show the meaning of the word where it sat(long touch to see a meaning of unknown word). you can slide even with a pen cap. screen is a bit inside to its border frame so dust formation at the corners and it is difficult to clean. you can change the font size to make the letters biggers or smaller. it also provide landscape view(change in settings). it shows battery and time on right top.
flipcover::: flipcover is also important, because you need not to press the power but when you start or finish reading. when you close it automatically goes in power saving mode. when you open it, it shows what you are reading. if you press the power button and off the screen you get even good battery life.
dictionary::: kindle has oxford dictionary pre installed and you can also download merriam-webster's dictionary also. it has other language to english dictionaries ( like german, italian, french, japanese, chinese, gujarathi, malayalam..) but you need to download them. kindle also has word wise, when you switch it on kindle shows meaning for tough word just above the word(you need nor to again do anything). but some books doesnt have this option.
reading experience::: at first it may be inconvenient, but on use it feels normal. there are lot of book on kindle store. but when you read pdf, it is very inconvenient, this is not for pdf files. also the processing speed not good, it feels very slow. it stores lots of books may be hundred. there will be no distractions, no ads or anything you can totally concentrate on what you read.
glare::: if you go into intense sun it gives glare like shine. but in normal conditions it is good.
browser::: it has experimental browser when you connects to wifi, it can connect to wikipedia and to google. but slowly.
It has been an amazing experience using this device. It is very easy on the eyes unlike mobile phones and tablets. You can see from the pictures I am attaching. It is also much easier to turn pages on the Kindle device when compared to a phone or a tablet. The size and feel is just like a book, only it is easier to carry. This is really good if you want to read for long hours. Reading for long hours on a mobile phone or tablet is very straining to the eyes. You won't face that problem on a Kindle.
Finally, this Kindle uses e-Ink which means the screen flashes every time you turn a page. What this means is the screen turns black and the letters white for just a moment while turning the pages. This is for better rendering. Nothing to worry about.
Finally, I have been reading Kindle (.mobi & .azw3) as well as PDF books on this device and they work fine.
Go ahead, if you want to read a lot, get a Kindle! You will be happy.
You will miss the brightness setting.
This is the most basic amazon kindle so don't expect backlit. Also, backlight will eventually be harmful for your eyes.
It is lightweight and is not durable. If you happen to drop it by chance it can break very easily.
Kindle is purely for book lovers.
I bought it since I can buy books at cheaper rates when they costs at around Rs. 1000 in hard copies.
I am the kind of person who used to feel that physical touch of books is what is more important than anything but after using Kindle for few days I am finding it an ease to read through the pages very swiftly from the book and also the convenience of dictionary too is apt. Now I am with such an ease with kindle than I don't want to go back to traditional book reading. This is one of the best investment of my life.
It has an inbuilt browser which helps you to browse internet and read articles on Google or Wikipedia etc.
You can only download files from a wifi.
Also you can transfer your files from your phone or computer through a kindle email id which you can find in your settings on Amazon account. Also write convert in your subject while sending any file from email id to your kindle otherwise the email won't work.
I will update my review soon after using it for few months.
1) Dictionary/ Wiki/ Thesaurus instantly available for any word or phrase.
2) Highlight texts when required. And can be shared.
3) Bookmarks easily set & searched.
4) PDFs also readable easily.
5) No strain on the eyes.
6) no distractions (best thing... which is not available on other electronic devices I know of)
Some critics told me to buy the paperwhite edition as there would be a backlight to read in the dark. Well.. If I can't read a hardcover in dark, I don't want to read a Kindle as well !!
Lastly... Thanks to Amazon for this lovely product....
