4.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal!
By Nikita Bharti on 28 February 2021
Genre : Fantasy
Rating : ⭐⭐⭐⭐🌠

Okay, This book is Phenomenal! ❤️

Legendborn follows a sixteen year old Bree, recently bereaved daughter, who enrolls in her new school in North Carolina for the perfect escape. Until circumstances lead her to believe that there was more to her mother's death than just an accident.
In quest of the truth, Bree joins a secret society of Legendborns, as an initiate. But ends up truly caring for the society and its members, specifically a certain scion Nicholas. ⚔️

This society based off of King Arthur's lineage is an interesting spin on the mythology. I am not so well read up on the Arthurian dynasty, but this book has really piqued my interest in the same.

The concept of grief is beautifully depicted throughout the book as Bree simultaneously tries to deal with her mother's death, school and secret societies, unsuccessfully. It doesn't help that her therapist raises more questions about her lineage than answers.
If you read the Author's note, you'd realise that the grief and trauma she has penned down comes from experience, and she does an incredible job at that.✨

One of the things I love most about books is how through a magically create world, the author highlights on prevalent issues in the society.
Deonn emphasizes on the blatant racism that has prevailed through centuries and still does through the journey of Bree as a black young woman, in a predominantly white community.

This book ends on a cliffhanger (Aaargh). Have to wait for the sequel now!! 😭

🍂
I read legendborn by Tracy Dennon in last week of February and i can't tell you how i hooked to this book. The new magical world, the characters, the details everything just beautiful.
🥀
Bree, who is smart, determined and emotional protagonist. After her mother's death she deal with grief & emotional trauma. Later she joins a secret society of legendborn to know more about her mother's accident. She is such a tough, kick ass kinda girl. I love her so much. Her connection with every character was beautiful.
🍂
And, Nick, the favorite one🤗. The heroic boy who loves Bree & they make a perfect couple. I adore nick & love him so much & their connection is something special. The way they spoke to each other, under each other❣️
🍁
But hold on, there is a love triangle. Sel, the half-demon, the bad boy who stole my whole heart😝😝. His attitude, charm, was in another level, Hotty🙈. And, honestly i wanted Bree pair up with Sel🙊
🍁
This magical world is new for me and i loved it so much. The world she build & all the magical elements are woven beautifully & were just so interesting💜
🥀
Tracy Dennon manages to braids Southern folk tradition and Black girl magic into a searing modern tale of grief, power and self-discovery.
🍂
In this book death, grief, loss, friendship and love, all plays a huge role and you will feel each and every of them🍂

5.0 out of 5 stars A throughly enjoyable and fantastic read.
By paperbacktomes on 5 May 2021
I was new to Urban Fantasy and I couldn't have asked for a better book than this one. Rooted with history, power-packed characters, and magic, this book blew my mind. The representation was on point and the twist in the ending was perfectly timed and executed. I immensely enjoyed reading this book and recommend it to YA fantasy lovers. I can't wait to read the next book in this series!

5.0 out of 5 stars What you need to know
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 December 2020
1. Legendborn is a continuation of the Arthurian legend, set 2000 years after Arthur's death featuring the descendants of the knights of the round table. There are tournaments, oathings, magic systems and demon battles with some Welsh thrown in.

2. The thing about fantasy/science YA protagonist you can always count on them having one dead parent or being an orphan. They usually mention the dead parent once or twice to show depth and maybe used as a plot point to establish how evil the villain is and that's that its never mentioned again.

With Bree you can actually feel her loss, pain and anger. It make her character seem realistic and sincere.

3. I've heard claims of insta love but personally I don't feel like the romance was rushed. Nick and Bree are attracted to each other, they make out and is extremely protective of eachother with a bit of angst thrown in that's it, all the hallmarks of young love. Plus Their bond is explained thoroughly towards the end.

4. Even though Legendborn covers various real world topics it never felt out of place or overwhelming. it still manages to be a fun entertaining read, seamlessly incorporating tropes without being cliche.

5. Legendborn is set at north Carolina Gimghoul castle.
