Okay, This book is Phenomenal! ❤️
Legendborn follows a sixteen year old Bree, recently bereaved daughter, who enrolls in her new school in North Carolina for the perfect escape. Until circumstances lead her to believe that there was more to her mother's death than just an accident.
In quest of the truth, Bree joins a secret society of Legendborns, as an initiate. But ends up truly caring for the society and its members, specifically a certain scion Nicholas. ⚔️
This society based off of King Arthur's lineage is an interesting spin on the mythology. I am not so well read up on the Arthurian dynasty, but this book has really piqued my interest in the same.
The concept of grief is beautifully depicted throughout the book as Bree simultaneously tries to deal with her mother's death, school and secret societies, unsuccessfully. It doesn't help that her therapist raises more questions about her lineage than answers.
If you read the Author's note, you'd realise that the grief and trauma she has penned down comes from experience, and she does an incredible job at that.✨
One of the things I love most about books is how through a magically create world, the author highlights on prevalent issues in the society.
Deonn emphasizes on the blatant racism that has prevailed through centuries and still does through the journey of Bree as a black young woman, in a predominantly white community.
This book ends on a cliffhanger (Aaargh). Have to wait for the sequel now!! 😭
