I would rate it 3.5 stars.
Though nice and sweet at times, it did not have the depth that the story-line warranted.
The pain of separation,of lost love, the hardships of an unfair life, the angst, anguish, joy all were a bit too off hand.
When Evie heard that Leo died, she hardly had any emotions for the boy she loved intensely and was just to happy to move on, the very next day.
Plan to skim through Leo's Chance and see if the writer did a better job there.

This narrative is told through Evie's POV. It is an emotional story. There are many heartbreaking moments and I had this awful feeling throughout that something dreadful was going to happen - which was the last thing I wanted since all I wished for was for Evie to be happy. This story is both heartbreaking and heart-warming. I cannot wait to read Leo's thoughts in Leo's Chance. I have a feeling I'm going to find his story very emotional too.
If you have yet to read Leo then please do. Don't wait any longer. I'm certain you will love it as much as I do. Highly recommended, I award Leo 5 stars.

There were times when I found Jake a little annoying, and it took me a while to figure out why. He was far too eloquent and voiced more of his emotions than I thought he should, especially considering his background - which ties in with the secret, so I won't say more on that. Maybe it was because he was with Evie, but we didn't really see him interact with anyone else to compare. The only other time was when he was throwing his mum out the apartment, and that was a completely different situation. Impossible to compare.
I think if you love plain romance than this is good for a lazy Sunday afternoon, but if you like a little something else with your romance - a side story that adds a little something extra, then you might want to avoid this.

Mia has told this tale from Evie's perspective until the very end when she tells the epilogue from Leo's perspective which is brilliant and perfect.
Evie and Leo met and fell in love as adolescents in foster care. One day Leo has to say goodbye to Evie, they are 14 and 15yrs old and they have fallen innocently in love, he has to move away to begin life with a new family as he has been adopted. They are both devastated but promise to wait for each other and declare their love.
Eight years later and Evie is living a frugal and hard-working life. She never heard from Leo and has just gone on with it, she makes the best of everything and doesn't let bitterness or regret taint her life. She realises that someone is following her for a week but they are rubbish at it and she manages to confront her 'stalker', he is Jack and this is where this story really kicks off. There are flashbacks to Evie and Leo's time together throughout.
This story is beautifully told and you will adore Evie, I felt so proud of her and she isn't real!! I'm not sentimental but I did have wet eyes shortly into the book and also at the end. Also Evie is a storyteller herself and I loved her way of taking a damaging situation and throwing a positive angle on it.
Loved, loved, loved this book. A mistress of storytelling.

The premise of the story is good, with both characters having been in foster care, and how they came out on the otherside.
Evie is a strong, independent woman, who has a job and good friends. She's content with what she has, having had nothing for a long time, and cherishes her life and her friendships. She spots someone following her, deciding he's obviously not that good at it, since she spotted him, and decides to surprise him and confront him. When she does, her life takes a different path, and that's a good thing - isn't it?
Jake has been following Evie for a week, and he's liking what he sees. He's shocked and surprised when she calls him out on it, but this is what he wanted, to be part of her life, but would she let him in; and more than that would she let him stay?
This is a definite recommended read. The characters are likeable and believable, and you want them to have their happy ending.
I'm looking forward to reading the next book, from a different point of view, should be good!

Two kids Evie and Leo live in a care home, and immediately bond with each other and become friends for life.
Evie has a special 'skill' in making up stories to comfort the other children, but all the stories reflect on their circumstances and the hope of a positive ending in their lives.
Leo is taken away from her and adopted by a family. He promises to return for her when she is 18. But when she turns 18 Leo is no where to be seen. After years of waiting, she meets Jake and is whisked off her feet.
Jake is handsome, loving and kind to Evie and has a hidden history of secrets himself.
I love the stories Evie creates, they are so poignant and emotional.
The story goes back and to, from present to past, as we learn more about Evie and Leo's special friendship, alongside her new relationship with Jake.
