I had assumed "The Little Book of Government" was written about the United States government especially since the Capitol is in the background (sans barbed-wire) however I should have been tipped off by the title since United States is missing! Over and over the word 'safety' was written. It asserts that Government's purpose is to ensure safety (implying paralyzing daily threats) and essentially manage essential facets of our lives. This is true in totalitarian governments (especially the fear-mongering safety-first spiel) however the United States government was created simply TO PROTECT our rights to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Lastly, nowhere in the book does it mention that government comprises ELECTED officials. Is this government "re-imagined". What happened to Land of the Free, Home of the Brave that did not believe in a nanny-state? Shame teaching children fear and dependency on the government.
