I think this is one of the best written and illustrated children's classics. The story line is so simple yet very profound. It gives the kids the confidence to do anything. The little train's simple act of "just thinking" made it possible to pull the load is a very strong message to be giving to the little ones. This is one of the must have books in every kid's library
A book from my childhood that I have shared with my own children and now my grandchildren. A special edition too with a truly heartfelt introduction by Dolly Parton. This edition should grace every child’s bookcase.
I had a previous edition for my kid, and the whole family loved it. However we misplaced it and I got this new edition without realizing the illustrations are 're imagined'. The new pictures are so cold, detached, they don't convey the passion of the toys to get going. Get previous edition.
I didn't realize this had been redone by someone from the original cute and simple little "I know I can" with all the added glitz. I'd always loved that story so wanted it for my great great grandson, and didn't check until the day before his birthday when it was too late to order the original printing and couldn't find it locally. I'm sure the book is great, but a disappointment because I loved the simple but GOOD story.
This was my absolute favorite book as a child. I read each year to my library students in grades K-2. So when I saw the 90th Anniversary Edition, I had to have it. Loved! Loved! Loved it! Can't say enough about it. Superb illustrations are woven with the story from our childhood. A must for every parent, classroom, and library.
LOVE this story, and the artwork is beautiful, but the book binding is not very good. You can see the stitching in the center, and the pages aren’t securely bound to the book so it’s already falling apart.
